Will Jack’s story take us back to the Empty in Supernatural?

There are two things we know about Supernatural Season 14: Jack is ill and we’ll return to the Empty. Could the two be combined in one story?

We’re heading back to the Empty at some point during Supernatural Season 14. This was something Misha Collins confirmed during the 100th SPN convention. We also know that Jack is extremely ill right now and it sounds like he’s expecting to die. Could these two plot points combine as one?

When Collins confirmed we’d head back to the Empty, he made it clear that he wasn’t going to be the Cosmic Entity this time. The job was going to someone else, but he didn’t hint at who it could be. At the time, my thoughts were on the possibility of Gabriel or Lucifer returning, but what if we head there for neither?

Out of everyone who could wake up in the Empty, Jack is the one with the power. Well, he was with his grace. He managed to wake Castiel up from there, helping Castiel return to the Winchesters. Could there still be some grace in there? Enough grace that would help him wake up in the Empty if he does die?

Jack would go to the Empty, right?

More from Supernatural

While Jack is human right now, he is still half angel. His species is a nephilim, even without his grace. He can’t go to Heaven and he wouldn’t go to Hell or Purgatory. Like angels, he would likely head to the Empty when he dies.

There’s no way the Winchesters and Castiel would be happy about his death. Castiel knows the Empty exists and it is possible to escape. He would focus on getting Jack out of there.

Even if nobody got there, it’s possible for Jack to wake up. It would be fun to see Alexander Calvert take on another role. We’ve seen our other main characters do it already, including Mark Pellegrino, who is currently playing Lucifer’s vessel, Nick.

Could Jack wake up Gabriel while he’s there?

If this was a storyline, there’s one thing that I’d request. Could we see Gabriel come back? As much as I didn’t like Gabriel at first, he was starting to get some sort of redemption arc. It was over before it managed to fully get started, so I’d love to see that arc continue.

After all, Heaven needs and archangel and that means Michael right now. He’s not going to head up there if he doesn’t have to, but Gabriel looked ready to take on the challenge. Heading to the Empty for Jack would also give us the chance to get Gabriel back, too.
