Supernatural Season 14 will go back to the Empty
During the 100th Supernatural convention, Misha Collins confirmed one place will be revisited. Supernatural Season 14 is heading back to the Empty, but for who?
In Supernatural Season 11, the Empty was mentioned for the very first time. In the 13th season, we finally got to see it. After Castiel’s death at the end of the 12th season, we got to see him in the Empty and fight his way back. During PaleyFest 2017, there were mentions of possibly going back to the Empty in Supernatural Season 14 and now that storyline has been confirmed.
During the 100th convention in New Jersey, Misha Collins confirmed that the show would definitely head back to the place angels and demons go after death. What he didn’t say is why. That would, after all, be a spoiler.
Who are we going to the Empty for?

It does sound like we won’t see Collins as the Cosmic Entity, though. Collins joked that his accent was so bad that they’ve got someone else to play that role. Could we get to see the Entity’s true form or will we see a mirrored image of another angel or demon down there?
Right now there are two potential archangels that we could go to the Empty for. It’s either going to be Lucifer or Gabriel. As much as we’d love for Crowley to come back, Mark Sheppard has made it clear that he’s not returning to the show. While we’ve temporarily been okay with Crowley switching bodies, there’s only Sheppard who could play the role full time.
So, it’s got to be either Lucifer or Gabriel to really mean anything. While I loved Lucifer, I’d want to see Gabriel come back in Supernatural Season 14. His redemption arc was cut far too short and there are far more stories. Lucifer’s storyline has been told to death now (yes, pun totally intended there).

This means a fan theory has been debunked
What going back to the Empty also means is that one particular fan theory was debunked. Many fans questioned whether Castiel had returned or whether the Cosmic Entity was within him. The character’s personality changed slightly, although I felt it was more in line with the soldier Cass from the earlier seasons.
By going back to the Empty and seeing the Cosmic Entity again, it means that Castiel is definitely just Castiel. The Entity is still down there, running the Empty and making sure the various archangels, angels, and demons remain asleep.
