Alona Tal lands female lead in ABC’s NYPD Blue reboot pilot

ABC is bringing a reboot/continuation of NYPD Blue and Supernatural actress Alona Tal has landed the female lead. What do we know about her character so far?

ABC has ordered a pilot for an NYPD Blue reboot/continuation series and the first role has officially been cast. Supernatural fans, about to get extremely excited. Alona Tal has landed the lead female role.

The Israeli-American actress will take on the role of Detective Nicole Lazarus (try not to see the Supernatural connection there), one of the 15th Precinct detectives. However, it’s not all easy going. As much as she loves her work, we will see some of her personal life, as her soon-to-be-ex-husband is aiming to get something out of her pension.

This is one of four main roles and, according to Deadline, she’s the only female lead, which matches the original series with Janice played by Amy Brenneman. She’ll be no stranger in male-dominated shows and I don’t just mean our favorite ghostly show. Tal recently had a recurring role in SEAL Team as the love interest to youngest Bravo Team member, Clay Spencer.

It looks like Tal’s addition to the NYPD Blue reboot pilot signals her permanent exit from SEAL Team. As a fan of the military drama (which also stars Ghostfacer AJ Buckley), it’s going to be sad not to see her but I’m excited to see her land this well-deserved lead role.

For those who haven’t heard much about the reboot (I hadn’t until learning about Alona Tal joining the pilot), the series is a continuation revolved around Detective Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz’s) son, Theo. He wants to investigate his father’s murder while earning his detective shield at the 15th Precinct.

The 20th Century FOX TV and ABC Studios co-production will be headed by NYPD Blue alums Nick Wootton, Matt Olmstead, and Jesse Bochco. Bochco is also the son of the original co-creator Steven Bochco. it looks like this is an attempt to keep it as true to the original as possible, making it a true continuation.
