Fandom 250: Why Bob’s Burgers should have made the cut
Fansided’s 2018 Fandom 250 list was released and one notable Fox animated show was missing: Bob’s Burgers. Here’s why it deserved to make the cut.
Cartoons and animation are usually one of the least appreciated genres. Unless it’s a movie by a big production company or a breakout hit, cartoons generally fly under the radar. As is the case with the cartoon fans for the 2018 Fandom 250 where there was only a handful of cartoon shows featured.
Two of the big names were The Simpsons and Rick and Morty. No surprise as both are widely beloved and also widely hated. There is one fandom that missed the cut and that’s Bob’s Burgers. Considering how dynamic 2018 has been for the show, Bob’s Burgers deserved a spot on the list so let’s get into how incredible 2018 was for the show and its fans.

Moving back to early 2018, the spring premiere of Bob’s Burgers Season 8 was easily the show’s best. Despite a small break for the Olympics, the show managed to come back stronger than ever. The show shifted its focus to generating even more character development, episodes with more humor and brought the Belcher family even closer.
At the end of September, Season 9 premiered with its 150th episode and it was unlike anything fans had seen before. There were entire music videos within the episode; it was the perfect way to celebrate 150 episodes. Since then, eight other episodes have aired including two holiday episodes and an upcoming Christmas episode. The show including its cast and crew are hitting their stride this season.
In terms of being a fan, 2018 has been huge for Bob’s Burgers. Most notably, there’s been a huge push for merchandise. There was never a huge market for it, but the show has branched out into making bedding, drinkware and board games. The show has also seen larger fan interaction including more podcasts, more writers covering it and general appreciation from the media.
Bob’s Burgers has also seen slight ratings incline with its new time slot. The series also gave away burgers to fans at Comic-Con and before its premiere. Coupled with its collaboration with Blue Apron, the Belcher family is on the upswing in the fandom world. As a fan of the series, I can confidently say 2018 has been one of the best years for the series as a whole.
Generally, Bob’s Burgers is snubbed in comparison to other cartoons shows but it’s finally time for the Belchers to get recognized. Maybe 2019 will finally be the year they make the Fandom 250 cut. If the series continues on the path it is, then there’s no doubt in my mind. Fingers crossed that Bob’s Burgers finally makes the list next year!
