Supernatural Season 3 gave us our first holiday-themed episode. Just why didn’t Sam want to celebrate Christmas? Let’s look back to mark the first #ThrowbackThursday in the 25 Days of Sam-mas.

On the sixth day of Sam-mas, SPN Hunters gave to you, a look back at Sam at Christmas. Please tell me you sang that because I did while typing it. Yes, I’m a little crazy but I’m writing this at 11:30 p.m. because I know I’ll be out when this is meant to go live. And I refuse to skip a day of Sam-mas for all you Supernatural fans looking forward to it.

And there isn’t a better time to look back at the only Christmas-themed episode of the series than on the first #ThrowbackThursday of Sam-mas. Poor, Sammy. He didn’t want to celebrate Christmas this year, but Dean desperately did. And it’s not because Sam doesn’t believe in good ol’ St. Nick.

It was because in Season 3, Episode 8, he would face his last Christmas with Dean. Despite fighting hard to get his brother out of that pesky crossroad deal that brought Sammy back to life, there was something deep down that told him he’d never manage it. The following Christmas would be one on his own.

He didn’t want to celebrate and it’s kinda sad. He didn’t want to have a last great Christmas with his brother.

In the end, he chose to celebrate it. He wanted to honor a dying man’s wish but, maybe, he also realized he needed to celebrate this Christmas. Sam needed something positive to remember and what better than gifts from the local gas station and the Christmas Day football?
