25 Days of Sam-mas Day #16: What will Sam do next? [Spoilers]

For Day 16 of the 25 Days of Sam-mas we’re heading into Supernatural spoiler territory. I try to avoid spoilers, but I need to talk about what’s next for Sam Winchester after that midseason finale cliffhanger.

Sam Winchester has a long journey ahead of him in Supernatural Season 14. For Day 16 of the 25 Days of Sam-mas, it’s time to look at that journey and what could happen in the second half of the season.

As you would expect, there are spoilers in this post. I want to keep the 25 Days of Sam-mas as inclusive as possible but this is an important topic. It’s looking at Sam Winchester as the man that he is now and comparing him to the man he was years ago. If you haven’t caught up yet, I recommend reading past Sam-mas posts that are spoiler-free.

If you’re still reading, you’ve either watched the Season 14 midseason finale or you don’t mind being spoiled. There’s no turning back now.

What will Sam Winchester do now?

The last we saw of Sam, he’d just learned that Dean had been taking over by Michael again. Whether you like it or not, it’s happened. Sam hates it but he’s got to move forward and figure out a way to save his brother.

And that’s going to be exactly what he does. He’ll find an option that will get his brother back while killing Michael once and for all. It could mean Lucifer will come back or it could even mean Gabriel will come back. Hey, we could even see a trip to the cage to get our own Michael out to take on this Michael.

Gabriel would be the better choice. He’s already proven himself as an ally and can be trusted a little more than Lucifer or our Michael. Yes, there’s Raphael, but he’s still not as trustworthy as Gabriel.

This will mean a trip to the Empty. Will we actually get that? We were promised we’d see the Cosmic Entity again but that’s already happened. So, we’ll have to see if another trip to the Empty is in store to get Gabriel back — or maybe Gabriel is still alive in the Apocalypse World somewhere because he tricked everyone again.

Can Sam continue to lead?

The Supernatural Season 14 premiere gave us a look at Sam without Dean by his side. He had managed to become a leader of the Apocalypse World hunters. The bunker seems to have cleared out now, but they will likely be on his friends list somewhere. He could become the leader of hunters again to help take down Michael.

However, there’s the fact that this Michael is someone all these hunters want to kill. He’s the archangel that destroyed their world and will want to get rid of him any way possible. They still didn’t bond much with Dean, which means they don’t feel much towards him.

Are you forgetting Garth?

Michael!Dean isn’t the only problem Sam has to face. He’ll need to work out how to help his friend, too. Garth is now partially controlled by Michael. We’ve seen Garth change on orders from Michael. Even though he didn’t want to, Garth didn’t have a choice and needed to be put to sleep by Sam.

Poor Sammy is going to have that to deal with. And he’ll deal with it the best he can because that’s what friends do. Sam feels guilty that he pulled Garth out of retirement for a mission that went sideways; for a mission that could mean Garth can’t go back to his family.

While finding a way to save his brother, Sam will be on a mission to find a way to save his friend. It’s not going to be an easy few episodes coming up.
