The last episode left Sam trapped in Bobby’s panic room after Dean saw him drink demon blood. Would he be able to get out in Supernatural Season 4, Episode 21 and what would happen when he did?

Supernatural Season 4 wasn’t easy viewing for Sam Winchester fans. And it seems fitting that I’m getting to the end of the season while I continue the 25 Days of Sam-mas! This isn’t the Sam-mas post, by the way. I’m not cheating you out of one.

Episode 21, titled “When the Levee Breaks,” started where the last one left off. Sam was now locked in Bobby’s panic room and the withdrawal from the demon blood began. And what a withdrawal it was.

Sam is taunted, Dean swears allegiance

We got to see Sam visited by the ghosts of demon blood past, including his 14-year-old self and Alastair. As he was taunted and tortured, he thought of abandoning the idea of being normal. It was clear that “After School Special” wasn’t just to bring high school back but to set Sam on a journey to this point.

Meanwhile, Bobby gets news from Rufus Turner that more seals have broken. He starts to doubt everything. What if they could let Sam get Lilith and then get him off the demon blood? Of course, that isn’t really an option, especially when Castiel confirms with Dean that Sam would become inhuman if he consumes enough demon blood to kill Lilith.

It turns out that Dean is the one that needs to stop the apocalypse. With that, Dean swears allegiance with the angels and off his goes.

Sam manages to escape

As Sam’s torture continues, Castiel visits the panic room and opens the door. Sam is able to get out, and Bobby isn’t about to shoot him. With that, Sam is able to escape.

Of course, Anna is angry at Castiel’s actions. As he tries to explain, the angels show up and capture Anna. Was it all just a trap?

With Sam now out, he heads straight to Ruby, who makes it clear that only “Lucifer’s first” can break that last seal. It’s clear that it means Lilith has to break the seal and Ruby is able to take Sam to her.

Dean shows up to kill Lilith, but a fight breaks out between the Winchesters. After calling Sam a monster, Dean makes it clear that if Sam leaves, he should never come back. Those words that John once said ring out and that’s who we’re left with the episode. Is there any way to get the brothers on the same side again?
