The CBS All Access Picard-focused TV series connects to the events which occurred in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek movie reboot. The TNG captain’s life was “radically altered.”

Star Trek, a franchise that’s still going strong until this day, is going to debut the return of Patrick Stewart once again as Jean-Luc Picard. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Alex Kurtzman gave some information regarding the show.

It’s been revealed that it’ll tie to the events that occurred after Spock’s failure to save the Romulan homeworld via red matter in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek reboot. Not only this, but there were other changes that occurred, one of which there was a young and old Spock now existing in the same timeline at the end of the reboot.

This is of significance as the 2009 occurrence in the flick happened several years after Star Trek: Nemesis. Also, hardcore fans may be reminded of a TNG episode, “Unification”, where the Federation was attempting to seek out Spock on Romulus. They had reason to believe the ambassador has defected to the planet in an attempt to reunify both Vulcan and Romulans.

In Star Trek: The Next Generation, the Federation, Picard, and Picard’s crew were always at odds with the Romulans. However, it is likely an alternate timeline has been created since Romulus was completely obliterated. Could this mean the Treaty of Algeron may have never been created?

Kurtzman relayed from Stewart the actor’s enthusiasm taking on the role. Apparently, Patrick was quite impressed with the 36-page document outlining their ideas and was all in afterward.

"“He threw down an amazing gauntlet and said, ‘If we do this, I want it to be so different, I want it to be both what people remember but also not what they’re expecting at all, otherwise why do it?'”"

There’s also the matter of the destroyed Vulcan world a la the J.J. Abrams film. Two significant planets of the Star Trek universe obliterated prior to the Enterprise-D crew taking on their stations. With two big gaps of these formerly significant heavenly bodies filling their previous orbits, one couldn’t help but ask questions.

With a nearly extinct species of Vulcans currently in existence in this universe, what became of the Romulans that were not inhabiting their homeworld at the time of its destruction? What could this mean for the “rebooted” Federation and Picard’s alternate life? One couldn’t help but to pontificate how much this would impact the Enterprise-D captain’s life.

Star Trek with Picard is coming to CBS All Access soon.
