Did breaking the spear really break the magic on Supernatural?

Supernatural Season 14’s fall finale saw some major plotlines and has led to some big questions. One of those is about the spear. Is the magic in it really gone?

In Supernatural Season 14, Episode 9, there was hope that the Winchesters would take down Michael. While they didn’t have the egg, they did manage to get the spear from Dark!Kaia. And then events happened and the spear was broken. Does this really mean that the magic is gone?

It seems it right now. There was a flash when Michael!Dean broke the speak, leading to the conclusion that it was now useless. There’s the feeling that it wouldn’t do any damage to our resident Apocalypse World Archangel.

This isn’t the first time an item has been broken and the magic gone. Just as it looked like we’d lose Castiel in Season 12, Crowley broke the Lance of Michael and Castiel was saved. The magic within the lance had gone just from breaking it in half. Does that mean the same for the spear?

When it came to the lance, the magic was within it because of Enochian ruins. When they were destroyed, the magic within the lance was gone. This was a point made when we got a good look at the lance, so it was clear this would be a storyline to destroy it.

The spear hasn’t had such a storyline. There hasn’t been this look at ruins along the spear to give it the magic it holds. In fact, the magic comes from a different world. It seems a little short-sighted that just breaking it in half will destroy all the magic.

Sadly, I think breaking it will have destroyed it. It’s an easy plot point to make it look like things are dire. Although, there could be a twist if Dark!Kaia ever gets her weapon back.
