On a night that saw the premiere of Big Brother: Celebrity Edition Season 2, midseason premiere of Arrow and Black Lightning, and new episodes on other networks, the Monday TV ratings were mostly in the red.

January 21 saw straggling shows return from their winter break and a new season of Big Brother: Celebrity Edition premiere. However, only three shows saw upticks in the Monday TV ratings. Here’s a look at what stole the night for audiences.

The first timeslot of the night was mostly about the unscripted shows. America’s Got Talent: The Champions continued against The Bachelor and the Season 2 premiere of Big Brother: Celebrity Edition. While NBC won the night in terms of total audience and was joint first against ABC in terms of the demo, only The Bachelor saw an uptick in views. Total audience figures were up by 5%, according to TV Series Finale.

Big Brother and Arrow’s midseason return saw the sharpest declines of the night, although there’s little to be concerned about when it comes to the CBS unscripted series. While Big Brother’s ratings were down from the first season premiere, they’re up from the average of the first season. The ratings are worrying for the CW series, which saw almost a 50% decrease in the key demo from the winter finale, which isn’t normal for a show.

Meanwhile, The Resident saw dips but the total audience figures aren’t too bad. Considering it’s the second episode back after its winter break, a dip is expected.

FOX’s new The Passage took the demo win on Sunday, with Magnum P.I. taking the win in the total audience. While the Magnum P.I. figures were sharply down, this isn’t anything too concerning. There was a special one-off new episode on Sunday straight after the Patriots vs. Chiefs playoff, which contributed to a sharp increase in the ratings.

Black Lightning saw a decrease with its midseason return, but nothing on the scale of Arrow. However, due to the ongoing dips in the non-Arrowverse superhero show, it’s certainly a concern for its future.

In the 10 p.m. slot, there were two upticks in the views. Bull and Manifest both saw increases in their key demos. However, all three shows aw decreases in other metrics. The decreases are nothing too concerning, especially as none of the shows were just returning from breaks.
