While we don’t want Supernatural to end, eventually it will need to. How will that ending go? Jared Padalecki shares his thoughts.

As a fan, I don’t want Supernatural to end. If I had my way, it would go on forever. But all good things must come to an end eventually and we’re all constantly looking out for when that could happen. More importantly, there are always theories and speculations on how it could end, and Jared Padalecki has his own.

In an interview with The New Indian Express, Padalecki talked about playing Sam for the last 13-and-a-half years. When he started the role, he was a single 23-year-old and now he’s married with three children. And it still only feels like yesterday that the show began.

But, naturally, the question of the ending to the show came up. While he thinks it’s weird to talk about it, this is something he’s considered. Looking at it from a fan’s point of view, there’s only one of two ways that he can see the series ending. Either both Winchesters or one Winchester brother has to die. This is something Jensen Ackles has mentioned in the past.

And while I don’t want to admit that needs to be the ending, it certainly makes the most sense. There is no way out of the hunting lifestyle for the two of them. If they’re alive, they will hunt the monsters in the world, and that’s something we want to see as a fan. We can’t have the “they ride into the sunset” ending.

The only other option that I could see being a viable ending now is that all monsters, demons, and ghosts were destroyed. However, there are still the evil humans out there — and they’re worse than the demons the Winchesters have faced. So with that in mind, there is always going to be a need for the brothers.

Of course, when the show comes to an end, there’s always the possibility of keeping it alive in comic form. It’s what Joss Whedon did with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Could it not work for Supernatural?
