Is Supernatural Season 15 the end of the series?

Supernatural Season 15 is officially a go at The CW. Now eyes are on whether the upcoming season will be the last.

Every year, we ask the same question. We get a renewal and we want to know if it will be the last. Now that we have a Supernatural Season 15 renewal, we need to know if it will be the end of the line.

While I can’t say whether it will be the end or not, I can look at the possibilities. There’s one thing I know for sure: when we come to the last season, we’ll be warned about it.

So, does that mean the show will get a 16th season? Not necessarily. We wouldn’t necessarily know if the season was the last at the point of renewal. It’s possible that the show will announce if it is the final season at San Diego Comic-Con in July. That means we’re going to have to wait a few months.

Whenever a show has been given a final season order from The CW, there have been warning signs. Usually, the show is one of the lowest rated on the network, which has certainly been the case for The Originals, iZombie, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Thoughts of cancellation have been strong and certain, so it’s always been a relief to get a final season announcement.

Supernatural isn’t at the point of worry. Despite the ratings being lower than last season and having the odd bad week, the show is still strong for The CW. Head of Entertainment, Mark Pedowitz, routinely says that the show is going to be renewed as long as the ratings hold steady and both main stars want to continue doing it.

As long as Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are happy continuing with the show, it’s going to be renewed for Season 16 right now. However, the network and Warner Bros. will need to work with them. They want to spend more time with their children, which means slightly shorter seasons (which 20 may be enough for them) will need to be part of the deal.

Right now, I wouldn’t say Supernatural Season 15 is the end. July will be a good time to find out. If the announcement of the final season doesn’t come at SDCC 2019, I think there will be a 16th season.
