Rowena made a shocking decisions none of us expected in Supernatural Season 14, Episode 14. It was with the promise of keeping people close to her safe, but did she really trust that someone would stick to a deal?

Supernatural Season 14, Episode 14 certainly ended with some shocking twists. It was nothing that we expected based on the promo and synopsis for the episode. While the twists were good, they brought many questions and one of those was regarding Rowena.

More from Supernatural

When Dean was knocked out, a certain archangel was able to escape. Deciding Dean was clearly too strong for him, Michael went in search for another vessel and that vessel was Rowena. At first, he promised to keep Rowena alive but she had news for him — she believes her books are still the same. So, he made it clear if she didn’t say yes, he’d kill everyone close to her.

This was an excellent show of Rowena’s character development. Even she pointed out during the episode that she was once the villain. Now she cares about the Winchesters, Castiel, and Jack (who is a Winchester at heart) as if they were her own flesh and blood. She made a sacrifice for them, unofficially making her a Winchester too.

Yet, I’ve got to question: did she really think she could trust Michael?

Michael!Rowena made a point of saying that Rowena likely didn’t believe him but there was possibly part of her that hoped he would stick to his word. Yet, Michael has never once proven himself to be honest. He reneged on his deal with Lucifer after coming through the rift from the Apocalypse World and then reneged on his deal with Dean at the end of Season 13. Rowena couldn’t once think that he would stick to a deal, could she?

Probably not, but it showed Rowena’s development fully. She couldn’t possibly believe him, but she had that little ounce of hope that he would stick to it. The last thing she wanted was to be the sole reason Michael had gone out to kill Team Free Will 2.0. That wouldn’t be something she could live with, so she needed to know that she’d tried.

At least by her saying yes, it wouldn’t be some helpless sap in the world who would say yes. There may have been a part of her that thought she’d be powerful enough to fight against Michael in her head.

Rowena wouldn’t have said yes just on the hope that Michael was telling the truth. It was a sign of her weakness for the Winchesters but it was also a sign of her faith in them — or maybe her faith in her own abilities. She had hope and was willing to make a sacrifice to protect others, making her a Winchester at heart.

dark. Next. How will Sam cope after the events of Ouroboros?
