Castiel as the soldier is something we need more of in Supernatural
Supernatural Season 14, Episode 15 gave us a version of Castiel we haven’t seen in a long time. He was a soldier and it’s something we need to see more of every season.
During Supernatural Season 14, Episode 15, we had Castiel figure out most of the case. It was him who worked the clues, helped snap Sam back to the right reality, and figured out who was responsible. Okay, he sort of figured out who was responsible but it’s not like the Winchesters are right every single time.
This version of Castiel is something we see now and then. He’s the soldier that understands the ways of fighting and knows how to work a situation. A version of Castiel that we would see a lot in the earlier years, he barely makes an appearance once a season right now.

And yet, it’s a version we need more of. For years, Castiel has been one to help explain a situation or a monster — whether it’s him doing the explaining or the explanation is being given to him. There was a chance for him to step up against Ophis in Episode 14, but he was immediately knocked down — the one to knock out without too many serious consequences.
In a way, he’s been weakened. And sure, he and other angels were weakened with the fall from Heaven, but that doesn’t mean they should have been weakened mentally. They are all still soldiers and retained everything they knew about life in Heaven.

A stronger Castiel can help to push storylines further forward. He can help solve a case in a new and exciting way. Sure, I love the Winchester brothers hunting together but it’s easy to get stuck in a rut of the same old thing. Castiel stepping up to take on the case gives a slightly different take and opens the world up more.
It’s time for this fighter to step up more. We need to see more of this character flourish in the series.
