Gotham Season 5, Episode 10 recap: Who is the woman behind Bane?

The great escape

Lee, Ed, and Oswald wheel the still-in labor Barbara through the dark corridors of the hospital. Knowing that Bane and his men are closing in on them, the men volunteer to keep Bane and his goons busy while the ladies head for the submarine.

The two rig up some pretty nasty explosives that serve to slow Bane down and kill some of his squad. Unfortunately for our anti-heroes, the big, bad Bane is like Jason Voorhees. He won’t go down, and the pair are forced to flee on their own.

Luckily, Ed reveals he found the missing part long ago (realizing Barbara wouldn’t let it out of her sight). The two ditch the ladies and head for the sub themselves.

Once they realize the men have left them behind, Barbara and Lee to have a nice heart-to-heart where Barbara admits she’s scared Jim will take the baby from her. Lee reassures her that the two of them are willing to help Barbara and the baby. Having perfect dramatic timing, this is where that baby is a-comin’.

It’s a girl and Babs and Lee discuss briefly what to name the baby (I’ve got a hunch it’ll be Barbara Gordon after her soon-to-be-dead mom). Bane, also an expert of timing, crashes the party now that the plot demanded it, I mean he’s found Barbara.

But my prediction that Barbara’s demise is imminent gets put in trouble as Selina and Alfred arrive to hold off Bane while the ladies escape. Bane is too strong, though, and knocks both of them out, apparently killing (or gravely injuring) Alfred by breaking his back – again parallel to the storyline of the Dark Knight Rises. Selina cries out for help in agony as she holds onto Alfred’s lifeless body.

As the episode ends, the guys get back to the base with the general, where Harvey is waiting to tell them that the ladies are safely at the Sirens base. As predicted, though, that is when the general gives the order to level the city including Lee and Barbara.

It may not matter, though, as all the patrons of the Sirens club having been brutally murdered. Nyssa al-Ghul emerges, knocks out Lee, and confronts Barbara, holding the baby, as the bombings of the city begin.
