On tonight’s emotional episode of @ShadowhuntersTV, several characters take their commitments to the next level, stopping at nothing to get what they desire most. Here’s what you need to know (spoiler-free) about Shadowhunters Season 3 Episode 16:

On last week’s episode of Shadowhunters, Clary and Jace both began to realize just how much Lilith’s rune was affecting Clary’s behavior, prompting Jace to want to bring her to the Silent Brothers. We learned more about why Luke chose to take the blame for the attack on his former wolfpack (despite Clary’s emotional objections), as he is set on punishing himself as a way to cope with his guilt.

Simon and Maia were able to prove that Heidi was the manipulative mastermind behind the massacre at The Jade Wolf, and Heidi’s reign finally ended when Maia took on the vampire by herself — going just a little bit rogue without actually breaking any laws. However Magnus, who continued to use Lorenzo’s magic despite experience its side effects, collapsed and seized in Alec’s office at the Institute on the same day he moved in, leaving us with a tragic cliffhanger.

On Shadowhunters Season 3 Epsiode 16, “Stay With Me,” we know from the episode synopsis that Clary and Jace are going to create a controversial plan to help Clary separate herself from Jonathan, and thanks to additional photos and sneak peeks, we got more of an idea of how the team will use the Malachi configuration and a summoning ritual to try and get to Lilith, but this is Shadowhunters, so of course things are likely to go wrong and/or get much more complicated. We also knew that Alec would be right at Magnus’ bedside as he lies in a hospital bed at the Institute, and we know that he will be seeking out Lorenzo to do whatever is necessary to save Magnus’ life.

As always, we promise this entire preview article is free of all major plot and dialogue spoilers, but all released photos, official sneak peeks, and season/episode trailers are fair game. If you *think* we’ve spoiled something, please know that what does actually happen in the episode is much much more complex and twisty.
