This week on Supernatural the question of Jack’s soul status is answered, and we wrap up Nick’s storyline.

Well, SPNFamily, that happened. Supernatural really knows how to make you yell and curse at your television lately, doesn’t it? There’s been a lot of speculation about Mary and whether they were trying to redeem her character, and also whether or not they were going to make Jack the big bad at the end of the season.

After the end of this episode, it’s starting to look a little more likely that he might. Or at the very least, things aren’t going well for him.

On top of the shocking ending, we finally got a definitive answer about Jack’s soul: he doesn’t have one. Not only did Nick tell Jack this, Cas has apparently known for a while, as Jo pointed out on their little expedition to try and contact God, more on that in a bit.

More from Supernatural

So if Jack doesn’t have a soul, does this mean, automatically, that he’ll be the big bad? Not necessarily, but his actions in this episode definitely show him not completely in control of himself when emotions are involved.

And Nick did no favors in this episode. Obviously off his rocker, and desperate to get Lucifer back, he kidnapped Donatello, tricked Jack into giving him his blood, and very nearly succeeded in bringing back Lucifer.

Nick has been a controversial addition to the show this season, and I’m not sad to see him gone. While Mary was shouting at Jack to stop killing him, I was like “meh.” And I know this action will have some repercussions, but I’m really not sad to see Nick, and essentially Lucifer, no longer a part of the show.

At least for now. We all know how this show works.

Before we talk about Jack and his reaction to Mary questioning him, let’s talk about Castiel and Jo trying to find a way to communicate with God. They are able to find the right talisman, and Cas tries to contact God to restore Jack’s soul. Obviously, God doesn’t respond, and Cas is disappointed. But that doesn’t mean anything. We still have a fan favorite showing up in the finale

So the end of the episode has everything happening very quickly: Dean finds Donatello and fights off the angels that were helping Nick bring back Lucifer, Nick severely beats Sam to the point where he’s probably going to die, and then Nick attempts to bring back Lucifer.

Jack and Mary go and stop Nick, and then Jack goes and saves Sam, and then heads back to Mary. He joyfully tells Mary that Sam is okay, however, Mary is concerned. She’s really concerned about Jack’s reaction and killing of Nick. She thinks that Jack needs help.

Jack insists that he’s fine, and he reminds her that he fixed Sam, so isn’t she happy? She points out that yes, she’s happy Sam is okay, but she’s also very worried for Jack. Something isn’t right. And when Jack asks if she’s going to tell Sam and Dean, and she says she will, his eyes glow, the screen cuts to black, and all we hear is Jack asking, “Mary?”

The question now is: did Jack kill Mary? And if he did, how will the boys deal with their “son” killing their mother?

Performer of the Week

I’m giving performer of the week to Mark Pellegrino. He played crazy Nick really well. You could see his manipulation throughout the episode, and lots of hints of Lucifer in his behavior. You can tell being possessed really did a number on his psyche.

And then the end? The desperation of needing to be possessed with Lucifer again was tangible. Kudos, Mark. And as much as I complain about your presence on the show, I really hope this isn’t the last we see of you, especially with next year being the last.
