New reports from AMC indicate that the network is developing yet another Walking Dead series—and the third installment will be lead by two female protagonists. Check out our list of possible candidates below.

The recent announcement of AMC adding another Walking Dead series to its upcoming lineup of shows doesn’t surprise us but the news is exciting nonetheless. According to a report from Variety, the next installment will be lead two female protagonists.

Details are still scarce so it’s unclear who Scott Gimple and the Walking Dead team have chosen to lead. Of course, the cast of TWD and FTWD already include a number of fitting candidates for the open vacancies.

Warning! Spoilers for the latest seasons of TWD and FTWD follow. You’ve been warned.

More from AMC

Assuming AMC’s next Dead series isn’t a prequel to TWD, it will probably feature some of the younger cast who we’ve come to know in the past year. Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming) is the first who comes to mind seeing as how she’s made quite the impression on fans in Season 9.

Another TWD character who we haven’t seen much from but could play a bigger role in this spinoff is Gracie. Aaron (Ross Marquand) adopted her after she was rescued from the Saviors’ compound back in Season 8—creating a new life for the orphaned child in Alexandria. Gracie hasn’t really made much of an impact on the series so far but perhaps a featured role in the upcoming spin-off will change that.

There also needs to be some exploration of her past because Gracie’s lineage is bound to come up at some point. Aaron doesn’t seem like the type of person to conceal such an important aspect of his daughter’s life so the new Dead series would be an ideal place to explore those facets.

Outside of the TWD arena, one character from FTWD also has a good chance at leading this new series: Charlie (Alexa Nisenson). Nisenson was recently upgraded to a series regular on FTWD, which suggests that the network intends to keep developing her character’s story. As long as Charlie doesn’t fall to an untimely demise in Season 5, Nisenson could stick around to play the next protagonist.

Aside from the candidates listed above, there’s one other character who would be perfect for AMC’s third Dead series: Clementine. For anyone unfamiliar with Clementine, she’s a pivotal character in Telltale’s series of Walking Dead games. She’s journeyed across the undead landscape and even met Paul “Jesus” Monroe on one of her adventures. Their alliance didn’t last long but it’s Clementine’s presence in Jesus’ neck of the woods that has us intrigued.

Even though Clementine has yet to appear on TWD or FTWD, she could be introduced at some juncture in the show. But if The Walking Dead’s writing staff truly wants to make an impression on fans, they need to save Clementine for the third Dead series in development.
