Still not had enough of Gibbs and co.? There’s no need to worry. NCIS has been renewed for Season 17 by CBS.

It’s official. There’s going to be at least one more season of NCIS, as CBS has renewed it for a 17th season, according to a CBS press release.

The news comes with the confirmation that Mark Harmon will remain as part of the series. After all, we need Gibbs. There is no series without Gibbs leading the team. Harmon also serves as EP on the series.

More from CBS

Like last season, the flagship series is the first of the franchise to be renewed. NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans will likely be renewed later in the year when CBS makes final decisions for more of the current slate. Last season, NCIS was renewed for a 16th season alone and then the other two were renewed along with the likes of Bull, Blue Bloods, and Survivor.

The renewal of the flagship series isn’t that surprising. It’s the number 1 drama for the network — and across all television. It’s also the number 2 series for CBS, just behind the comedy The Big Bang Theory. With the comedy series ending this May, CBS will want to keep its most popular drama on the air for the time being.

It’s not clear who else will return. Back in June 2018, Wilder Valderrama signed a deal with CBS to return to NCIS for Season 16. That contract would also bring him back for a 17th season, so we should see Nick Torres. The one character we’re worried about the most is Ducky. It looks like David McCallum is finally stepping away from the series completely. While it will be a loss, we’ve had the time to get to know Palmer and he’s been an excellent M.E. to take over from Ducky permanently.

While CBS hasn’t confirmed the line-up yet, we’ll likely see the series keep its Tuesday night slot in the fall. Why “fix” something that isn’t broken?
