There will be deaths in Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3. Is there any hope for Theon to survive?

There are very few characters from the pilot episode of Game of Thrones left right now. Even fewer will still be alive when Sunday is over and when the series is completely done. Theon is one of those still alive but how long will that last? Is there any hope for him at the Battle of Winterfell?

Out of all the characters, Theon is the one to receive the most character development. We’ve gone from not really liking or caring about him, to actively hating him, to feeling a little sorry for him, to loving the hell out of him. How many other characters can you say that about? He’s done some terrible things but he’s redeemed himself over the years, especially in Season 7.

More from Game of Thrones

During Season 8, Episode 2, he made it clear that he still had some redeeming to do. He offered himself and the Ironborn for Bran’s protection at the Godswood. It’s clear he knows there’s a high chance that he won’t survive, but he’d rather put his life on the line for Bran than run from this fight. This will help to bring his redemption arc to an end – he’s protecting the character he pretended to kill all those years ago.

To bring his redemption arc full circle, there’s only one way that Theon’s journey could end. He would need to die to protect the child that he pretended to kill. If it wasn’t for Theon taking over Winterfell, Bran would never have been forced out, the Boltons would never have taken over, and Theon wouldn’t have had this necessary redemption arc.

There’s a point in the promo for Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 3 where Theon draws a flaming arrow. He’s likely at the Godswood and it suggests that the wights, White Walkers, and even the Night King get there. Theon and his Ironborn soldiers are needed to protect Bran. The war comes to them and I get the feeling that he isn’t going to survive this. He’ll die protecting Bran.
