Ahead of tonight’s anticipated 2.5-hour @ShadowhuntersTV finale, see what showrunner Todd Slavkin teased about the satisfying conclusion to #Shadowhunters that will leave fans feeling “very happy.”

Earlier this season we had the opportunity to speak with Shadowhunters showrunners about what was in store for Season 3B, and Shadowhunters EP Todd Slavkin also took some time to reflect on what it was like to write and direct these additional final two episodes for the series, a task that had been completely unexpected.

“It was an incredible experience to be able to put a show to bed. We’ve never had that before in our entire career,” Slavkin said. And after those Season 3, Episode 20 cliffhangers, we feel fortunate those final two episodes were ordered for many reasons (though saving Magnus Bane is a personal top priority).

Slavkin went on to explain that when it came to writing the Shadowhunters finale, they focused on channeling their own inner fan. “The idea of, as fans of the show, to be able to say, ‘What do we want Jace and Clary to be? And what do we want Simon to be? And Izzy to be? And Alec?’ It was so fun. I can’t even tell you how magical it was to be able to create, to write, and to direct those final shows,” he shared. “It was really a treat, and I think — knock on wood — the fans are going to feel the same way. If you like the show and you like what we’ve done to it, I think you’ll be really happy with the finale.”

The 2.5-hour finale will feature condensed storylines from what had been previously planned to take place in Shadowhunters Season 4, and will also see the return of many characters who appeared on the series prior to Season 3B. Thanks to the official released sneak peeks and photos, a long-speculated Malec wedding has finally been confirmed, essentially guaranteeing some degree of happiness for all fans watching.

And while there are likely to be many other satisfying, feel-good moments (like a Jimon training scene I didn’t know I needed), we can’t be sure if every main character will find their own “Malec wedding” level of happiness. While we’ve gotten some teases about several different special storyline endings, it’s also been said that the conclusion of Shadowhunters Season 3, Episode 22 has some open-ended story moments where future episodes in the Shadow World universe could pick up the baton.

We’re expecting an amazing team-up mission to Edom with Shadowhunters, Simon, Lorenzo and Meliorn, and though we obviously want to see Magnus reunited with Alec and the team, we’re very much looking forward to seeing Magnus’ scenes with Lilith in Edom. It’s Jonathan Morgenstern who’s going to be causing allllll of the trouble though, and based on what we’ve seen from the trailer (and from what Luke Baines shared on Instagram), we have a feeling Clary and the team aren’t going to be able to stop him from destroying New York as easily as they had planned.

Feeling robbed of what would have been Maia’s incredible Alpha story growing throughout Season 4, we’re hoping to see more of her leadership in Shadowhunters Season 3, Episodes 21 and 22. And we’d be lying if we said we weren’t nervous for Luke’s journey now that he’ll be turning over the vial of Heavenly Fire to Praetor Scott (and has Shadowhunter runes in the preview photos).

We know Isabelle will have a prominent role in the first half of the finale — we’re assuming with how Magnus is able to be rescued, but don’t forget about this intense Instagram post from Nick Sagar either that teases how Isabelle might feel the next time she sees Aldertree in the Institute…
