Supernatural Season 6, Episode 7 recap: What is Samuel Campbell up to?
Dean is suspicious of Samuel in Supernatural Season 6, Episode 7. Does he have reason to be? Check out the throwback recap for Family Matters.
Fans finally learn what’s happened to Sam in Supernatural Season 6, Episode 7. If only that was the problem. Dean is also suspicious of Samuel Campbell, but does he have reason to be? Here are the events of the past episode.
What’s wrong with Sam?
After finally getting confirmation in the previous episode that Sam didn’t feel right, Castiel confirms something we’d all feared. Sam was brought back wrong but he’s not possessed by Lucifer. Sam just doesn’t have a soul, and that soul is likely still being tortured in Lucifer’s cage.

The Winchesters need to figure out where Sam’s soul is and find a way to get it back. There’s hope that Samuel Campbell could know, since he was resurrected a year ago, too. So, the two brothers and Castiel head to speak to Samuel.
However, Samuel tells the men that he doesn’t remember anything about being brought back from the dead. Castiel does confirm that Samuel has a soul though, so that’s something. Before Castiel can help in any other way, he leaves to deal with the angelic civil war.

Attacking the Alpha Vamp
With Castiel gone, Samuel is able to share what he’s up to. He’s planning to attack the Alpha Vamp’s nest. He doesn’t really want the Winchesters with him, though, but Dean invites himself anyway. Naturally, Dean is suspicious and tries to break into Samuel’s office to figure out what this guy is hiding.
Christian Campbell shows up, making it clear he doesn’t like Dean one bit. No worries! The feeling is mutual.
The Winchesters head out on the mission with the Campbells anyway. While at the vampire nest, Sam goes off with Samuel and a couple of others, leaving Dean with Gwen. Dean runs off though, seeing things that he witnessed in his vision, and sees the Alpha Vamp being taken by Samuel and Sam into a van.
Samuel is taking monsters that he captures to somewhere and Dean is angry that Sam has allowed this. Sure, it makes sense in a way to interrogate the Alpha Vamp but it’s dangerous and they’re supposed to kill the monsters.
What Sam doesn’t know is where Samuel is taking the monsters. So, Sam activates a GPS tracker in a cell phone and they follow Samuel.
What Samuel really wants
At the interrogation room, the Winchesters learn from the Alpha Vamp (who recognizes Dean and knows Sam doesn’t have a soul) that Samuel wants to know where Purgatory is located. However, Samuel is finding out about this on someone else’s orders.
When the Campbells show up, a fight breaks out and the Alpha Vamp escapes. The Alpha Vamp wants to take Sam, believing a soulless human would make an excellent animal. He also snaps Christian’s neck, but Christian shows up behind the Alpha Vamp and injects him with Dead Man’s Blood. Christian is possessed by a demon.
More demons show up and they take the Alpha Vamp. The Winchesters, Samuel, and Gwen are left behind with Crowley.
Why is Crowley there? He explains that he brought Samuel and Sam back because he wants their help — and Christian had been possessed for a while and was Crowley’s mole. Crowley wants to know where Purgatory is because he wants to “develop” it.
Crowley does offer something. There’s a chance Sam could get his soul back, but he and Dean will need to help Samuel capture creatures and find out where Purgatory is. The brothers don’t have a choice if they want Sam’s soul back, but they make a promise to get him back eventually.
