Steve Yockey is stepping away from Supernatural, where he’s been a writer for three years. It’s all for a good thing, as his own show has been picked up.

We have some sad but exciting news at the same time. Steve Yockey, who has been a writer on Supernatural for the last three years, is leaving the series ahead of the final year. It’s for a good reason, though, as his own show has been picked up to series.

Yockey joined the Supernatural writing team for Season 12, with “Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox” as his first writing credit. Since then, he’s written eight episodes and co-wrote one episode with Megan Fitzmartin (her first episode). He was also made co-producer from Season 13.

More from Supernatural

It’s certainly going to be sad to see him leave the series. Yockey’s episodes are some of my favorites, focusing a lot on the side characters and the heartfelt, meaningful discussions. His episodes have featured witches a lot of the time, including the Banes twins and Rowena.

However, he has noted that he’s contributed to the final season. He didn’t share what he contributed or whether he’s actually had time to write an episode, but he’s involved in some way. The writing room has only just returned to production so it’s likely that he hasn’t physically written a script but helped with the development of the ideas.

Exiting the series is for a good reason, though. Steve Yockey’s own show, The Flight Attendant, has been picked up to series by the WarnerMedia streaming service. Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory and 8 Simple Rules has landed the lead role on the series.

According to TVLine, The Flight Attendant is based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian. Cuoco is Cassandra Bowden in the thriller, a flight attendant who wakes up hungover in a hotel room in Dubai. Not that strange? How about the dead body that’s next to her?

Rather than get in touch with the police, Cassandra heads on the next flight with her fellow crew members only to be pulled up b the FBI and questioned about Dubai. Is she the killer or has she been set up? That’s something for her and us to figure out.

Yockey is joining the Arrowverse’s Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter on the series.
