The Walking Dead is coming to an end. It’s over. Finished. But it’s only the comics. How does it impact the television series?

You may not know this, but The Walking Dead is ending after a long, successful stretch. Luckily for fans of the television series, the end is only impacting the comic book. Or is it?

Could there be residual effects for the television series? Caution: Minor spoilers ahead.

The legacy remains

More from AMC

After 16 years, The Walking Dead is done in comic form. That’s 193 issues of the amazing graphic novel that has spawned two television shows, will soon inspire another, and will also lead to the Rick Grimes movies.

If the comic ended so abruptly, does that mean the exit strategy for the remainder of the franchise is already planned? Relax, there are so many differences that the television show doesn’t even follow the comics much anymore.

Divergence

For starters, Rick’s story arc and death are different between the comics and the television show. In the former, he lives until nearly the very end and gets shot. The latter, however, he gets tossed in the air after an explosion on a bridge.

Right, right, he’s “not dead” and the new series will show how he got saved. For the time being, pretty much everyone on The Walking Dead thinks he’s dead.

Additionally, Rick returns as a zombie. As if that’s not enough, Carl shoots his zombie Father. For those tracking at home, that’s drastically different since Carl is deceased (Where’s Carl?) and not wearing that ridiculous looking hat.

Do you think Kirkman is tiring of the series that made him famous? Will The Walking Dead television series start winding down and leaving only the spin-offs?

Fear the Walking Dead continues on Sundays at 9/8c on AMC. The Walking Dead Season 10 premieres in October.
