Stranger Things Season 3, Episode 1: The 5 best moments from “Suzie, Do You Copy”
Stranger Things is back! Season 3 is amazing, and the first episode “Suzie, Do You Copy” is the perfect reintroduction to the series.
It seems as if Stranger Things has been away for eons. After watching just the first episode, however, it’s as familiar as riding a bike. Which is convenient since bike riding is such a key piece of this amazing show. The first episode is titled “Suzie, Do you Copy?” and here are the five best moments.
Caution: Huge spoilers ahead. Turn away now if you haven’t binge-watched the series.
1. The Gate
Remember how Eleven closed the Gate, sealed The Upside Down forever, and killed all the remaining Demogorgons? Scratch that. This is the era of the evil Soviet Empire, and they’re up to their old Boris and Natasha ways.

At a Top Secret facility inside a snow and ice covered mountain, an exhausted Russkie scientist hands a key to a colleague. They both put the key in at the same time, turn simultaneously, and immediately one thinks of a nuclear missile. This is Stranger Things, however, and they’re firing up a massive machine with multiple stages – like a Von Braun invention on steroids – that fires a concentrated bolt of energy into one of the Gates. The electric bolts fly back and forth like a Faraday cage before the Gate rejects it, sends it backward, and incinerates a few random red shirts in the room.
During the chaos, just a bit of the black ooze slithered out, and it may have been enough to cause problems. For the Soviet General, however, it’s not enough. What are they doing? As the great Jim Croce song “You Don’t Mess Around With Jim,” says:
You don’t tug on Superman’s cape
You don’t spit into the wind
You don’t pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger
And you don’t mess around with Jim
Add one to the list: You don’t try to reopen The Upside Down.
