Big Little Lies isn’t going to be something you initially consider as a Supernatural fan. Here are five reasons you’ll want to give it a chance right now.

When it comes to TV shows during Hellatus, one show you probably haven’t considered is Big Little Lies. The award-winning drama from HBO is a completely different genre with a very different POV than Supernatural. But it’s certainly worth watching.

One of the first reasons Supernatural fans will consider watching the series is for Kathryn Newton. It’s a chance to see the actress in a different role — still an opinionated teenager but trying hard to be a good force in the world. However, she’s not one of the reasons to watch as a fan of the Winchesters.

A mystery to solve

The very first season builds throughout the season, all set around one mystery. We know something has happened but not exactly what. All we get are glimpse that five certain women in the town — the Monterey Five — are suspected of something.

It sounds like one of the five possibly committed a heinous crime. But what could that crime be? It wouldn’t be until the end of the season that we’d get all our suspicions confirmed.

Supernatural is often shrouded in mystery. There are storylines to figure out along the way. If this is something you like about the series, you’ll want to check out Big Little Lies.

It’s wonderfully acted

When watching a show, you need to like the actors in the roles. You need to know that it’s going to be a good series. There’s no need to be worried about this HBO series.

With Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, you knew you were guaranteed some excellence. However, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and now Meryl Streep are all important members of the cast and help to continue the excellence.

There are even some younger actors to keep an eye on. Young Sheldon fans will recognize Iain Armitage and, of course, Kathryn Newton is involved.

A group of people coming together

Supernatural has grown because of its idea that family doesn’t end with blood. While Sam and Dean have built a family for hunting reasons, the Monterey Five become a family because of their shared experiences.

It’s not easy. We get a chance to see the group separate — one member wasn’t even originally part of the townspeople — and see how they bond together. There’s a chance to see the highs and lows.

The second season focuses on the bonded aspect of things. The women look out for each other, although problems are starting to show. During the second season, there’s also the reminder that blood family isn’t always made up of the best people to have around.

With seven episodes in the first season and six episodes so far (seventh airing tonight) in the second, there isn’t too much to get through before the Big Little Lies Season 2 finale on July 21. Sometimes you need something completely different, and this show is perfect for that.
