SDCC: The Supernatural panel’s 5 most emotional moments
At their final Hall H panel, the cast of Supernatural got emotional and brought the room to tears. Here were the five most emotional moments.
Hall H has quite the reputation at San Diego Comic-Con. Holding up to 7,000 people, it’s by far the most intense panel experience — and the Supernatural family takes it over every year. From surprising fans with Kansas, to passing out snacks in the overnight line, to playing the funniest of blooper reels, the Supernatural panel in Hall H never disappoints.
But knowing that this year’s panel would be the last for the series as it heads into its 15th and final season, the emotion in the room was palpable. Before the cast and creative team took to the stage, fans were treated with a massive montage of “the road so far,” featuring memorable and iconic scenes from all 14 seasons. Moderators Rob Benedict and Richard Speight Jr. walked onto the stage dressed in matching Castiel trench-coats to introduce the members of the panel.

5 – When Holly Ollis from WBTV reminded us all of how we found Supernatural
Supernatural has been a 14-year journey. Like myself, you may not have found the show until it had already been on air for several years, but it’s SO much more than just a television series. The fan community; charity efforts stemmed from the series, cast and fans; messages of hope and family that come from the show; and relationships that have been built because of the series are all part of Supernatural’s legacy.

Holly Ollis, the publicist for Supernatural from Warner Bros. television, has also been part of seeing this series and fandom grow over the past 14 years, and hearing her share in that emotion as her voice broke while thanking the fans for their support kicked off the panel in a truly touching way.
4 – When Misha Collins revealed they all promised each other they wouldn’t cry, then started crying
Misha Collins told the audience that the cast knew they were lying to one another when they all promised they wouldn’t cry on stage, and then proceeded to make the rest of the cast get choked up. After sharing his love for the fans, he turned away from the microphone to say “I love you guys” to the panelists on either side of him and then reached over to put his arm around Andrew Dabb.
3 – When Jared Padalecki said Sam Winchester would never leave him
Jared Padalecki spoke on how the show may be ending, but that his character would never truly be gone. “I’m really lucky because my friendships won’t go away,” he said. “Sam Winchester, for me, won’t go away. He’ll be a part of me forever.” Watching Jared wipe away tears throughout the end of the panel didn’t help keep our emotions in check either.
2 – When Jensen Ackles was too emotional to speak
Answering another fan question about what it means to be concluding Supernatural after 15 seasons, Jensen Ackles — the man who is an emotional rock — was clearly struggling to hold it all together.
“Guys, thanks for showing up, you know? Because without you, we wouldn’t be here. And it’s an amazing thing to see, this many faces who appreciate what we do,” Jensen said. As he tried to put into words what he wanted to say next, a few fans in the audience yelled “We love you!” and “Thank you!,” and you can see in the video of this moment below how Jensen reacted, unable to continue talking.
Personally, that’s when I lost it and let my Dean-inspired single man tear start falling. After some time to pull it together, and with support from Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins on either side of him, Jensen Ackles simply said “We love you guys very much. Thank you.”
1 – When the audience and cast both gave standing ovations
It was emotional to see the cast embracing on stage and reaching out to one another to show encouragement throughout the panel, but at its conclusion, the audience showed their gratitude by applauding with a standing ovation, and the entire panel did the same. We got extra emotional when Jensen Ankles, Jared Padalecki, Misha Collins, and Alex Calvert stood together with their arms around one another before leaving the stage.
