The 100 Season 7 will be the last, ending with perfect number of episodes

The CW has made a decision on the future of The 100. Season 7 will be the last, and it will round out the series with the perfect number of episodes.

The 100 Season 7 is going to be the last. Just days ahead of the Season 6 finale, The CW and The 100‘s showrunner, Jason Rothenberg, have made the announcement.

This isn’t all that surprising. I’ll admit that when I heard Season 7 was picked up days before the sixth season premiere, I had my suspicions that it would be the end. The network had no idea how fans would take to this almost-reset of the story. It was a clear sign that it wanted to make sure there was one more season to tell the story. Plus, production on the season had begun ahead of the official renewal, suggesting that it would be the end.

Regardless of the situation, the ending is actually quite perfect. Rothenberg shared that the show would end with 100 episodes. It’s fitting for a series called The 100.

This does mean we can figure out the number of episodes in the final season. The show is getting 16 episodes, which puts it at the same length as Seasons 2 and 3 when the show moved to the fall season. However, I don’t expect the series to get a fall start date, though. This is a show that has always fared better in the midseason.

There’s a lot the series can do with 16 episodes, and with the warning of it being the final season. It will give the writers time to wrap up the Sanctum storyline, however it ends on Tuesday.

This is the third CW show that will come to an end in the 2019-2020 season. Supernatural and Arrow are both wrapping after 15 and eight seasons respectively. It marks the end of an era with Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and iZombie wrapping this year. The CW is looking at moving forward with fresh, new shows both in and out of the Arrowverse.
