Bob Singer talked about the music of Supernatural at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. Will we get any more Led Zeppelin on the series?

There are many questions about what’s in store in Supernatural Season 15. As it’s the last season, we’re dying to know just how the show will wrap up 15 years of story. Bob Singer wouldn’t share too much about that during his SDCC 2019 roundtable interview, but he did talk about the chances of getting Led Zeppelin music during the season.

It turns out that the licensing rights for Led Zeppelin are expensive. It’s not like a TV show can put in any music it wants and get away with it. There are licensing deals needed, which can’t just be for the live viewing but also for the streaming and DVD releases afterward. Those who have watch the show on Netflix will know that sometimes the tracks have to change.

Singer shared that Zeppelin is sometimes too expensive. However, that doesn’t mean the use of the music is a definite no. It’s going to depend on a few factors.

Choosing the music isn’t just about picking something that sounds good. The song needs to fit the story that’s being told, something that the show has managed to do on many occasions. Singer shared that if there is a Led Zeppelin song that fits then the producers will certainly look at securing the licensing rights. However, those rights also have to be in budget.

"“We hope that the songs really fit the situation. If there’s a perfect Zeppelin song and we have the [budget] this year, we’ll go after Zeppelin. Sometimes these bands don’t even want you to use their music. Kansas has been great to us…we’ll try with Zeppelin. We’ll see what happens.”"

Singer went on to talk about what to expect in the final season. It picks up right where Season 14 left us. The Winchesters and Castiel are in the graveyard, surrounded by the risen souls of Hell. He shares it will take about three episodes to let the dust settle, and there’s certainly some housekeeping between Castiel and Dean’s relationship, something that Jensen Ackles touched on previously.
