Ben needs Dean’s help

More from Supernatural

After the last time Ben called Dean for “help”, we all initially thought that he might have been crying wolf again. However, Dean listens and Ben is telling the truth. Men broke into the home and killed Lisa’s new boyfriend, Matt. Dean tells Ben to get to the window, but it’s too late and Ben is taken.

Crowley picks up the phone, offering Dean an ultimatum. Either the Winchesters allow Crowley to open the door to Purgatory or Lisa and Ben will be killed. Naturally, Dean refuses to back down and since Castiel can no longer be trusted, Sam turns to Balthazar for help. Balthazar pretends not to really care, but it’s clear that he didn’t realize that Castiel and Crowley were working together.

Bobby researches into H.P Lovecraft

When Bobby realizes that Moishe Campbell’s journal is missing, he and the Winchesters realize that Castiel likely stole it. Campbell had a section about H.P. Lovecraft, an author fascinated by the idea of doors to different dimensions. He may have known something about purgatory.

Bobby turns to a fan of Lovecraft for information about a final dinner party that Lovecraft held where he and guests tried to open the door to another dimension. Castiel got there first though and all information about that dinner party is gone.

However, Bobby has enough information to send to Sam. All the guests either died or went missing sometime in the year after the party. The maid’s son, Westborough, was nine at the time and he is now in a place for the mentally ill.

Naturally, Castiel had got there first. However, Westborough didn’t trust Castiel enough to give up all the information. He does trust Bobby, and shares that a portal was opened but the dinner guests didn’t believe that anything came out of it. However, Westborough knows that something did because his mother was possessed by it.

Westborough even has a photo of his mother from 19365. His mother was Eleanor Visyak, who we met in “Like a Virgin.” She may have been a monster from Purgatory, but she isn’t evil and she wants to keep the world safe. That’s why she gave Dean the Sword of Brunswick.

She refuses Bobby’s offer of protection. Maybe she should have taken it because at the very end, Castiel takes her.

Castiel is angry at the actions against the Braedens

When the Winchesters get to the demons that took Lisa and Ben, Dean decides to torture for information. Despite not trusting Castiel, Sam prays to him. Castiel doesn’t appear but he does hear everything, and he is angry that Crowley has gone behind Castiel’s back.

However, Balthazar is also angry and wants answers from Castiel. It ends with Balthazar still swearing allegiance to Castiel, but the tensions between them are high.

Balthazar isn’t working with Castiel, though. He will be the Winchesters’ double agent, knowing that Castiel is out of control. And while Dean’s torture of the demon went wrong, Balthazar knows where Lisa and Ben are being held. The problem is the building is angel-proofed.

Getting to Lisa and Ben seem to be a little too easy, and it’s soon clear why. Lisa has been possessed by a demon, who decides to use Lisa’s “thoughts” against Dean and Ben to hurt them. Dean wants Ben to ignore everything that Lisa says right now.

A fight ensues and Dean starts an exorcism. However, Lisa grabs a razor and stabs herself just before the demon is exorcised from her. With Sam not there to help, because he’s knocked unconscious by two demons and locked in a room, Dean has to rely on Ben to help shoot their way out of the building to get Lisa medial attention.

On the way out, they hear Sam locked in a room. Everyone manages to get out and to the nearest hospital.

Dean makes an impossible choice

Things aren’t good for Lisa. She’s not going to make it, so Castiel heals her without Dean even having to ask. This isn’t enough though.

Lisa and Ben will always be in danger. And they’ve witnessed too much. Dean wants Castiel to wipe their memories of him. Castiel doesn’t’ want to but he obliges.

After that, Dean goes to see that Lisa will make it and neither remember him. So, he apologizes for being the driver that hit them and that’s it. Sam is angry with Dean for making this choice, but Dean makes it very clear that this is something never to bring up again.
