BH90210 Season 1, Episode 4 recap: 5 most shocking moments
By Reed Gaudens
As the cast implodes over a disastrous table read, BH90210 reveals the truth about Brian’s assistant, but a new mystery looms. Who burned down their set?
It’s another crazy week on BH90210 as the cast prepares to step back into their iconic roles for the Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot. But the road back to the Peach Pit has been anything but smooth as they’ve weathered stalkers, philandering writers, and an elusive Shannen. Now, just one day before cameras go up on the ol’ 90210 crew, their first table read ignites a fresh feud.
When the cast protests their new writer’s interpretation of their characters and the classic series they wish to take great caring at restoring, a last minute rewrite sends the whole group at each other’s throats. Shannen threatens to quit the reboot, prompting the terms of her deal to rattle the group. But nothing rattles the group like walking into their soundstage in flames. Who started the fire? Let’s break it all down with this week’s five most shocking BH90210 moments.
1. Brian’s assistant isn’t who he says he is…

Finally, the truth about Brian’s shady stalker-turned-assistant Zach comes out. When a rough (like, really rough) cut of Shay’s new song leaks online, she and Brian wonder who the culprit could be since the files were stashed away in Shay’s home studio.
Zach conveniently points the finger at Shay’s trusted employee, as if he doesn’t look suspicious, and a private investigator confirms Zach’s innocence. But the investigator catches a peek at Zach’s stalker wall and Brian’s wallet. When Brian confronts Zach at his apartment, Zach admits the truth: He’s Brian’s son. What?!
2. Gabrielle misinterprets Christine’s signals.
There’s nothing more uncomfortable than thinking you’re on a date when you’re not. Last week, Christine encouraged Gabrielle to join a dating app to meet women and then message her on said app. When they sit down for their “date,” Gabrielle’s noticeably nervous, throwing out questions about dream vacations because that’s what she learned after googling “first date questions.”
As it turns out, Christine just wanted to get a drink. The pair does later share a kiss as their relationship moves past the friend zone, and that could complicate things if a certain theory comes true.
3. Shannen’s pay bump sparks outrage.
As if the group wasn’t already wading through enough turmoil with the script rewrite, Shannen’s brief walkout leads to the revelation that she’s making double the salary as the rest of the cast. This leads to an awkward scene where the cast hashes out the money drama, and Shannen cries that she’s donating her salary to a charity that benefits orphans.
Not to doubt Shannen (fictional Shannen, that is), but something felt off about that scene, like she cried on command to lie. Maybe we’re reading too far into a scene that simply didn’t work and a story that ultimately didn’t go anywhere.

4. Jennie’s daughter gets the “Donna role.”
This week, Jennie and Tori’s stories poked a whole lot of fun at Tori’s longtime accusations of nepotism scoring her the role of Donna Martin. (Dory Snelling, Tori’s audition alter ego, gets a shout out!) Jennie’s daughter Kyler has been promised the role of Kelly’s daughter in the reboot, but when her audition fails to outshine another actress’ reading, Tori opts to cast Kyler as Donna’s daughter instead.
She notes that she originally auditioned for Kelly and was given the smaller part of Donna. Still, Kyler proves to have a lot of Kelly Taylor in her blood when she slashes Jennie’s tires to keep Wyatt around. Isn’t that strangely romantic?
5. Who burned down the 90210 set?
After all is said and done and the cast finally marches onto set to shoot the approved pilot script, the group discovers their soundstage has gone up in flames. On the doors before the fire, “Stop acting like I’m not even here” screams at the cast in eerie red writing.
Of course, fans would hope it’s Valerie Malone’s real-life counterpart Tiffani Thiessen joining in the fun, and some might even suspect Shannen’s storied bad girl reputation to jump out. But our money’s still on Miss Emily Valentine herself. She might be romancing Gabrielle, but she’s not fooling us.
