Critical Acclaim: Flatliners was dead on arrival. Critics gave the movie a mere 4% approval rate. It’s a pointless reboot of the original film.
About the Role: While ordinary people might pass on the idea of stopping their heart and then getting revived a minute later, Marlo jumps at the opportunity. Dobrev plays Marlo, the rival of Diego Luna’s character, Ray.
Simply the Best: I have no problem admitting Flatliners was a dud. I only watched this movie for the cast. The performances are decent where the rest of the film fails on all fronts. However, Dobrev does her best with the material given, and she shines here as Marlo.
Her relationship with Luna’s character is a high point, as is her bonding scenes with Ellen Page and Kiersey Clemons’ characters. Watching her in this movie made me want to see Nina tackle more horror. I would love to see her star in more psychological thrillers.
At present, her focus seems to be on comedy but Flatliners proved she could hold her own in the terrifying world of paranormal activity.
