Friday TV ratings: Fresh Off the Boat and Charmed up
Charmed and Fresh Off the Boat got boosts in the Friday TV ratings. Meanwhile, Dynasty and Hawaii Five-0 saw a drop. Here’s a look at the results.
The Friday TV ratings are in, and they’re certainly mixed. Shows you would think would get a boost were down and shows that haven’t been performing all that well lately saw dips. Here’s a look at what the results were like for the night.
Fresh Off the Boat and Charmed received the most surprising and biggest increases in both the audiences and demos. For the ABC comedy, the demo was 50% up. While it’s still only at a 0.5 rating, it still shows that people are interested. The audience was up by 10% to 2.47 million, but outside of The CW and FOX’s Friday Night SmackDown, the audience was the lowest of the entire night.
Charmed saw 17% boosts in both the demo (to 0.2) and audience (to 0.76 million). This isn’t high in terms of other networks and still keeps the show at the bottom of The CW’s list of entire shows, but I don’t think there’s too much to worry about just yet. This is a show that benefits from being on Netflix, just like Dynasty.

ABC also had a good night with American Housewife and 20/20. The first comedy of the night was steady in the total audience (and the highest for ABC that night) and up 22% in the demo to 0.6. In fact, the demo was joint top out of the scripted shows with Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods.
20/20 was up 15% in the demo, holding onto the 0.5 rating set by Fresh Off the Boat, and up 12% in the demo to 2.71 million. The alphabet network will be happy.
It wasn’t good news for the rest of the networks. Everything was down in both metrics, with The Blacklist seeing the largest drop in the demo by 23% to 0.4, the lowest of the scripted shows outside of The CW. The total audience drop wasn’t as big, but still a disappointing 7%. Moving back to the fall doesn’t look like a good move.
Magnum PI and Hawaii Five-0 both saw relatively large drops in both metrics. The demos were down 18% and 11% respectively, while the audiences were down 10% and 12% respectively. Right now, it’s nothing to worry about, but CBS will likely keep an eye on its Friday night lineup.
Dynasty had mixed results. While it was down 16% in the demo to a 0.1 rating, it was up 6% in the total audience to 0.48 million. It may be The CW’s lowest-rating and lowest-viewed show, but it benefits from its Netflix deal. Sadly, the international deal has changed and the show isn’t airing on Saturdays on Netflix around the world. Instead, it’s not going to arrive until 2020 (days after the finale airs). Fans are understandably upset considering Netflix and The CW offered no warning about this.
