Supernatural recap: What’s Rowena’s big move to save the day?
Team Free Will needs to try one last Hail Mary in the hopes of saving the day in Supernatural Season 15, Episode 3. What does Rowena have up her sleeve?
The Winchesters, Castiel, and Rowena need to do everything they can to stop the souls of Hell from escaping in Supernatural Season 15, Episode 3. It means one last Hail Mary, but is it going to work?
Caution: There are spoilers in this post for “The Rupture.” I highly recommend you watch the episode first, unless you read the recaps to stay up to date because you can’t watch live.

Let’s get straight to one particular storyline. We caught up with Ketch in the hospital. After surviving the iron bullets to the shoulder, he was up and ready to join back in the fight. That was until Ardat showed up. You remember the demon he mentioned who hired him to kill Belphegor, right?
Well, she isn’t happy that he failed to kill Belphegor. Seriously, there were more pressing matters but I guess a demon doesn’t really care.
Unsurprisingly, Ardat rips Ketch’s heart out (yes, he has a heart!) and kills him on the spot. She then finds out where Belphegor and Castiel are to kill Belphegor herself. It doesn’t work. After just a short appearance, she’s gone. Oh well!
Belphegor’s plan revealed
Team Free Will + Belphegor head to the crypt where the guys managed to get to in the Supernatural Season 15 premiere. Great, except that the steps to close the doorway to Hell—it turns out it’s a tear—couldn’t be closed from there.
Belphegor has a plan. He can get Lilith’s horn to command all the souls back to Hell. It literally pulls them back without a fight. He wants Cass to be there to help. Meanwhile, Rowena, with Sam’s help, can take care of the ritual and Dean can drop the bomb in to close up the doorway once the souls are back inside.
Simple, right? Well, you didn’t trust Belphegor, did you? I’m honestly surprised the Winchesters and Castiel went along with his plan. It turns out that he wants to rule Hell. He wants to rule Earth, Heaven, everything. And he things he can do that by being powered up by the souls that he commands back with Lilith’s horn (which needed Cass to read the Enochian on its lock box).

Castiel manages to stop Belphegor and then smites the demon. After that, he burns Jack’s body to a crisp.
Erm, so where’s Jack going to go when he gets out of the Empty, then? And I’m guessing we’ll touch on that story in the next episode or two?
Rowena realizes a sacrifice is needed
If you thought Supernatural was done with deaths for an episode, you thought wrong. Once Rowena realizes that things aren’t working out, she figures out what she needs to do. She needs to die so that she can take all the souls to Hell with her.
All the spell needs is the blood running through her and her last breath. But she can’t do this herself. In a tearful speech, she tells Sam that he’s the one that needs to kill her. Death’s books say that it’s always him. This is her end.
Sam doesn’t want to, but eventually, he realizes that this is necessary. He stabs Rowena in the gut, so she can suck in the souls and take them to the rupture. From there, she can throw herself in and lock all the souls back in Hell.
It’s over. The apocalypse has been won. Well, that’s what the Winchesters think. With 17 episodes of the season left, we know better, but that’s the current situation dealt with. They do find out about Ketch’s death and they have time to mourn Rowena, but that’s it for now.
Well, except for Dean and Castiel, who go their separate ways. Castiel knows that Dean still blames him for what Jack did to Mary. It’s understandable. Mary was Dean’s mother after all and Castiel hid a huge secret. We knew the rupture between them was going to last a while. Just how long will that “while” be?
