Supernatural revealed that Rowena always dies at the hands of Sam. Will that happen any time soon? Just why would the younger Winchester brother kill our red-haired witch?

Rowena now knows how she’ll die on Supernatural. Well, she knows who will kill her. In all her books, there’s only one person consistently causing her death: Sam Winchester. That means before all this ends (or at least before Sam is potentially killed off forever if it happens to be the end) Rowena will have to die.

Yet this is Sammy. If Dean was the one to kill her, then I could see it happening multiple different ways. Despite saying he liked the fun, flirty Rowena who sometimes helps, he is ready for the unhelpful enemy. Sam, on the other hand, wants to believe that she can be a good person. He would only kill if really pushed to it.

Why would Sam ever kill Rowena on Supernatural? It’s time to delve in to figure it out and look at four main reasons.

#1. She goes against them one too many times

As I said, I’d expect Dean to pull the trigger, but not really Sam. The only reason Sam would with Rowena going up against them is if she put his life or Dean’s life directly at risk. This could happen if Rowena goes up against them one too many times and there’s no other way to stop her, Sam would pull the trigger if he needed to.

However, someone would have to be in grave danger for that to happen. This leads me to the next reason.

#2. She’s been possessed

I’ve never seen Rowena with an anti-possession tattoo. I’m not sure if being a witch (and especially the leveling up she’s done recently) will help to prevent possession, but there’s always the chance that Rowena will be taken over by some force. Maybe she’s possessed by a demon or vengeful spirit and forced to do their bidding. She could even say yes to an archangel to take down a certain other one. Hey, it could happen, right?

If there was no other option, Sam would likely kill at this point. He wouldn’t just want to keep himself, his brother, and other family members safe, but he’d want to keep the world safe.

#3. Someone is controlling her

What if she became bound to someone or something? Again, I’m not sure if it’s possible. We’ve seen ghosts and reapers bound to do others’ biddings, but is it possible to bind a supped-up witch? That’s something for the Supernatural writers to figure out. Right now, I’m going to say it’s possible for this theory.

If Rowena was a puppet for someone else, the Winchesters may have no choice but to kill her. Hell, Rowena may even find a way to contact them and beg them to kill her. This would be a dark but understandable ending to the character.

#4. Sam is possessed

Does it count as Sam killing Rowena if he’s possessed? At no point did Jessica point out that Sam was in control of his body in all the books. Just that it was Sam, which could mean Sam’s body but not Sam’s soul, if you get my meaning.

It’s certainly possible that Sam could be possessed by something. Sure, he can’t be possessed by a demon, but does that anti-possession tattoo protect him from ghost possession? He can still be possessed by angels if he says yes despite it, so could he end up saying yes to a certain archangel? After all, Lucifer wants Rowena dead, right?

Honestly, it’s going to take something major for Sam to kill Rowena on Supernatural. For now, I think we’re safe but when it comes to the end of the series, I think we’ll have to look out for some signs Rowena’s permanent death is coming.
