While Christmas movies have been airing around the clock on some sections of television, Netflix finally releases its pre-Thanksgiving holiday movie event with The Knight Before Christmas. The fantasy romantic comedy arrives after the streaming giant’s latest slate of Christmas fare, beginning earlier this month with Holiday in the Wild, Let It Snow, and the animated feature Klaus. Surely, this is the Knight we’ve all been waiting for.
The Knight Before Christmas stars Netflix’s new queen of Christmas Vanessa Hudgens as Brooke, a high school science teacher who’s, of course, a little unlucky when it comes to love. Despite being jaded about matters of the heart, she can’t help but fall for Sir Cole Christopher Frederick Lyons (Josh Whitehouse), a medieval English knight magically transported into the present day. What could go wrong for their romance other than a mixed-up timeline?

The film pulls inspiration from the hit book series turned hit television series Outlander, but with a whimsical Christmas twist. Hudgens and Whitehouse headline the film directed by Monika Mitchell and written by Cara J. Russell, and Emmanuelle Chriqui also stars in a supporting role.
Last holiday season, Hudgens starred in Netflix’s Christmas romantic comedy The Princess Switch, which become a surprise fan-favorite. The streamer recently announced a sequel, The Princess Switch: Switched Again, to premiere next year, keep Hudgens a holiday staple at Netflix. Who knows, if The Knight Before Christmas takes off with viewers, we might be in for a sequel, too.
