Every story needs a villain, but that villain needs to eventually be dealt with. Has The Resident dragged on the Red Rock storyline too long?

I love a good villain story. And every TV show needs some sort of antagonist. The Resident has had a few over the years, with Lane and QuoVardis as the ones that stand out the most. Red Rock is the villain of Season 3, but is that storyline going on too long?

Many fans are starting to get frustrated and somewhat bored of the story. It’s clear that Red Rock needs to be taken down, but right now, the situation for Chastain is getting worse. There’s no sign of it getting better.

More from FOX

In the winter finale, Kim and Cain got their wish. Conrad was fired, and it was for the most ridiculous rule in the book. It was a rule that isn’t even in place in all hospitals, as Conrad pointed out to Nic. So, did he really deserve to be fired?

Absolutely not. But Kim saw it as an opportunity and took it. Kim also did it in a cowardly way. Instead of telling Conrad before he became Chief Resident, he brought security along in the hallway knowing that Conrad would likely, and understandably, put up a fight.

It’s clear that it’s not over, but we’re going into the winter break with no sign of Red Rock being over any time soon. When it came to the story with Lane, it was really only just getting started by the winter break. I’d argue the same with QuoVardis by this point in Season 2. We’d only just started to see what they were capable of.

Red Rock has been a known antagonist since almost the start of The Resident Season 3. It’s been week after week of Cain throwing his money and weight around, taking questionable steps just to make more money for Red Rock, and going behind people’s backs to get what he wants. We’ve had week after week of Red Rock running the show, with threats against each of our favorite doctors.

The storyline is dragging. It’s time for the doctors and nurses of Chastain to make a stand. Or maybe for them all to walk? Sure, Red Rock could hire others, but the doctors and nurses would get jobs elsewhere and be better treated.

The Resident writers need to up their game a little. Live ratings are dropping and the show is in trouble. If Red Rock isn’t dealt with soon, I have a feeling more viewers will disappear because fans are getting frustrated with seeing loss after loss. We don’t have time to celebrate some of the minor wins.
