The merging of worlds and resetting the timeline in Crisis made us question the version of Laurel Lance we got. The Arrow backdoor pilot confirmed it.

Caution: There are spoilers in this post for Arrow Season 8, Episode 9, which serves as a Birds of Prey backdoor pilot.

At the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths, everything changed. Earths merged, meaning that Supergirl is now on the same Earth as Arrow, The Flash, and more. It also changed the timeline, leading to questions about the version of Laurel Lance we had.

More from CW

Arrow fans know that we’ve seen two versions over the years. We started with our Laurel, the one who would become Black Canary and steal our hearts. She was killed during the fourth season and after that we met the Earth-2 version, a metahuman version known as Black Siren.

With the change to the timeline and merging of the Earths, it meant that only one could survive and that it could have been either. Would we get our Canary back?

Arrow Season 8, Episode 9 has confirmed the version we got back. The backdoor pilot for the Birds of Prey spin-off saw Laurel and Dinah in 2040, dealing with a situation that needed Mia Queen to help. The entire world had changed, meaning Mia’s memories of everything from Crisis had to be awakened.

But that wasn’t the part that explained which Laurel we had. Sure, we saw that she was wearing the Black Siren costume but that could have been explained for Black Canary with the twist of the timelines. It was a conversation with Mia that confirmed we have Black Siren, the Earth-2 Laurel, in this world.

As Mia was fighting against being a hero, Laurel said:

"“Mia, I spent so much of my life choosing the easy path and, for me, that meant becoming Black Siren and destroying things and killing people. It’s not a good look. Can you honestly tell me you were happy with your life before I woke you up? Truly?”"

There you have it. She is officially the Earth-2 version. Mystery solved.

If you’re not convinced, there was also a moment in a fight scene when Laurel unleashed her Siren call. There wasn’t anything around her neck to help release the sonic wave, so it confirms we have our metahuman version.

The backdoor pilot for the Arrow spin-off, whether it’s called Birds of Prey or Green Arrow and the Canaries, certainly set up a story for a future season. Mia wasn’t the only one with old/other world memories awoken. JJ also had his released, setting him up to be the potential villain for the series. It also set up Dinah and Laurel forming a team of Canaries, bringing Team Canary to the picture.
