Katie Cassidy part of the Birds of Prey Arrowverse backdoor pilot
It looks like Katie Cassidy is set to stay with the Arrowverse. She’ll head the Birds of Prey spin-off, which will get a backdoor pilot in Arrow Season 8.
As we hear that Osric Chau is part of the Arrowverse crossover, we also get news that Katie Cassidy is looking to stay within the universe. She’ll be one of the three female leads in the Arrowverse spin-off, Birds of Prey.
Like Wayward Sisters, the show will get a backdoor pilot in its parent show first. That will be during Arrow, which premieres its eighth and final season in just two weeks. Considering the success of the Arrowverse as a whole, this will likely be picked up to series unlike Wayward Sisters.

Birds of Prey is set to star Cassidy, Katherine McNamara, and Juliana Harkavy, according to Deadline. There’s no word on the exact episode that this backdoor pilot will take place in. There are only 10 episodes to the final season, so fans won’t have too long to wait to see it.
This idea of Birds of Prey was introduced last season, with many fans hoping to see Emily Bett Rickards part of it. However, Bett Rickards chose to leave the series at the end of the seventh season, and it doesn’t sound like she’ll be back for this backdoor pilot.

When the series will be set is unknown, but it has to be at some point in the future. McNamara’s Mia Smoak is the daughter of Oliver and Felicity. Unless we get some sort of time-travel paradox like The Flash’s daughter, Nora, showing up, everything is going to have to be set in Mia’s time.
The idea of the spin-off isn’t all that surprising. Arrow coming to an end was the start of a movement, which includes Batwoman‘s introduction to the Arrowverse. The CW is moving on from its first generation of Arrowverse shows and heading into a new generation, which Birds of Prey will be a part of if picked up to series.

Arrow‘s final season premieres on Oct. 15 at 9/8c on The CW.
