The Walking Dead: World Beyond is another spin-off from the original AMC series, and it could prove to be a refreshing take on the series.

First there was The Walking Dead. The success arguably spurred the zombie genre that’s still going strong. Second was Fear the Walking Dead, a look at a different group of survivors during the zombie apocalypse. Now there will be The Walking Dead: World Beyond, a brand new look with a different angle on the genre.

Fans of the zombie series are stoked about the potential of a new series and new characters from the beloved comic.

What is The Walking Dead: The World Beyond about?

Lord of the Flies meets The Walking Dead is how I’m thinking about it. The series appears to be based on children who have grown up in the ZA, and are semi-accustomed to it. Can it work?

All I know is, I’ve seen people in their 70’s use the internet, get completely flustered trying to figure out the “complexity” of search engines, and hand over the smartphone to a 7-year old to figure things out. This could be similar, who knows?

However, think about it. Could Judith survive without adults? The answer is obviously no. So if she is hopeless, and she’s about as lethal as a preteen can be, the idea these kids could be more dangerous than Judith is unlikely. Naturally, this limits the series’ potential story arcs. Maybe that’s why it’s only two seasons?

Benefits of a short series

The length of the series could be a complete positive. First of all, some have argued the series is getting tired. Having this new spin-off last a limited time could keep the idea fresh. It could also mean the strategy has been laid out from beginning to end, ya know, with an actual ending. The last thing anyone wants is a great series to end up with a rushed final season (looking at you, Game of Thrones).

A secondary benefit to a short series is a potential segue to the Rick Grimes films. Conveniently enough, the preview video shows more regarding CRM, the mysterious group that were/are linked to Jadis and who have Rick.

Ideally the plot to The Walking Dead: World Beyond ends just as Rick lands in a helicopter. Fingers crossed. So when does the series premiere?
