8. black-ish

During the 2018-2019 season, black-ish was one of the comedies I thought would be canceled. However, ABC opted to renew it, likely linked to the pick-up of the spin-off mixed-ish. However, the ratings haven’t been great for the 2019-2020 season.

More from Entertainment

As great as the comedy is, the live ratings need to hold up. As the ratings dip too far, the pilots are usually put up against the bubble TV shows to see if there’s a chance the pilots could do better. Of course, there are high risks with pilots and ABC opted to renew more current shows instead of putting too much risk in pilots that could fail during the 2019-2020 season.

With a lack of pilots, there’s most definitely a bigger chance of black-ish being renewed. While there is a straight-to-series pickup, it’s a drama and not a comedy, offering more good news.

7. Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector

NBC hasn’t had much luck with freshman shows over the years, and Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector is one of those shows that continues the trend. The live ratings haven’t been strong enough for the peacock network to justify renewing.

There were a few TV crime drama pilots being considered by NBC, including Langdon, based on the third book in the Dan Brown series. This put Lincoln Rhyme at direct risk, since NBC would most likely want to replace a TV crime drama with another TV crime drama.

With Langdon being one of the pilots that had to stop production due to the novel coronavirus, there is good news for Lincoln Rhyme. We may get answers after that shocking finale.
