Looking for something to watch in lockdown? Here are the best horror movies currently streaming on Hulu, including A Quiet Place, Stephen King’s Misery and Bong Joon-ho’s The Host.

Everyone is trapped inside and no doubt losing their minds. The year is almost half over and we’re already fatter and paler than how we started. It’s a stressful time. Whenever I feel like an anxious mouse stuck in the walls I watch horror movies because they’re strangely therapeutic. I would recommend The People Under the Stairs because the way those poor cannibals feel as they walk out of that horrible house is how most of us will feel when we finally get to go outside, but this list is for Hulu and that movie is not on Hulu. How unfortunate.

So, here are the 11 best horror movies currently streaming on Hulu, ranging from popular blockbusters to underrated indies.

From the “Popular” selection

The Cabin in the Woods

More from Hulu

Fans of Wes Craven’s Scream should love this quirky movie. It takes a similar stance on the slasher genre that picks apart common plot devices and “tropes” with a generous splash of comedy. One of the most unique films in recent years, it stars Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, and Fran Kranz as a group of friends on vacation who become the intended sacrifices for an ancient ritual.

A Quiet Place

The movie is made by Jim from The Office about man-eating aliens that hunt by sound. The aliens wiped out nearly the entire human race because their superhearing can pick up even the slightest footstep from miles away. John Krasinski and real-life wife Emily Blunt star as a husband and wife struggling to survive in their new normal with three children and a baby on the way. Babies make a lot of noise.

Parasite

I wouldn’t consider Parasite a horror movie, maybe in a psychological moral sense, but lots of other people categorize it as horror so I’m putting in here. The film that won Bong Joon-ho his Academy Award and made cinema history is a South Korean film about a family that infiltrates a rich household. They’re quite literally human parasites. Starring Kang-ho Song, Sun-kyun Lee, and Yeo-jeong Jo.

Zombieland

America’s answer to Shaun of the Dead. Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin star as a rag-tag group of survivors in a low-stakes zombie apocalypse. It’s a light-hearted family film that even those who hate horror can watch.

Overlord

One of the best zombie Nazi movies ever made! A group of American soldiers stranded in a French village during D-Day discovers horrible human experiments carried out by the Third Reich. It stars Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Mathilde Ollivier, and buckets of lovely gore. Fair warning, it’s fun but graphic.
