One Day at a Time served us a shocker at the end of Episode 4 when it was revealed that Avery and Schneider are expecting! The mystery surrounding the positive pregnancy test in the Alvarez trash can was certainly a highlight with the possibilities ranging from Elena to Penelope to Lydia.
Just when everyone thinks they can rest easy knowing that none of them are unexpectedly expecting, Alex has a shocker for his family in Episode 5. No, his girlfriend isn’t pregnant either! He actually has a big request from his mother, and it involves $500.

Now, we have no idea why he wants or needs $500. Penelope surely doesn’t know either based on the teaser down below. We know that his 15th birthday is coming up based on his family’s desire to throw him a quince party. Perhaps he’s already saving up for a car? I’m sure Penelope would prefer that to be the real reason why he wants so much money.
Elsewhere, Elena will be working on a list of essay topics for when she applies to Yale. On the list? Her stories about growing up Cuban, her former daddy issues, and “general gay stuff.” I can’t wait to hear Penelope and Lydia weigh in on which topic she should stick with.
We also know that Schneider and Avery will deal with an “unwanted” gift from Berkowitz. I can only assume this will be a baby gift of some sorts following their exciting revelation. And I’m sure the gift is well-intentioned, so I’m very curious to see what they have to deal with.
