The One Day at a Time Season 4 midseason finale is upon us. How did six weeks go by so quickly? We watched Penelope briefly explore her single life, only for Max to return to rekindle their love. Elena is preparing for college and learning many life lessons along the way. Alex has a new girlfriend and is exploring a career in fashion design.
Lydia and Berkowitz haven’t changed one bit, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Finally, Schneider and Avery are parents-to-be! Life continues on for the Alvarez bunch, and of course they’re taking it one day at a time, right?
Max, in particular, looks like he is ready to take the next step in his relationship with Penelope if the promo was any indication. We know that Episode 6, titled “Supermoon,” will focus on everyone’s relationships as a supermoon looms above.

The official synopsis hints that everyone finds a romantic setting to gather at to enjoy the moon’s beauty that evening. The clip featured down below reveals glimpses of this rooftop setting as Elena and Syd discuss their futures. It sounds like they have decided to stay together when they go to college as Elena assumes she’s going to Yale while Syd will go to the “Yale of Connecticut.”
Regarding the other couples, Alex and Nora are celebrating three months together, while Schneider and Avery are still celebrating their impending parenthood. Yet, this wouldn’t be an important One Day at a Time episode without a surprise or two.
As alluded to before, we know there’s a scene where Max gets down on one knee in front of Penelope. Is this what it looks like? Did Max realize what he was missing out on? And if so, will Penelope decide to commit?
