All Rise Season 1, Episode 21 featured all the characters filming remotely using phones and web cams due to the global pandemic. It was an interesting move,  how did it go?

During the COVID-19 global pandemic, many of us have had to stay home to remain safe. TV show productions have been shut down and many shows have ended filming prematurely. However, All Rise has tried something different when it shot and produced an episode remotely.

The show was done by capturing video through phones and web cams. It was a bold move by CBS to air a show done this way. So, just how well was it executed?

When the show started, I hated it. I actually considered not watching it because I couldn’t deal with the Zoom-like meetings on my screen. The case itself was rather basic, but the premise was seeing if it was possible to have a bench trial via remote cameras.

As the episode went on, it got better. The highlights were showing how the different characters were coping. Friends missed each other. Others drank to cope. Everyone looked for connections any way they could.

It was these moments that were done so well. The overarching theme was that, even though we are apart, we are all still connected.

It was threaded together by DJ Tailwind, an Instagram Live DJ who just happened to be played by Dorian Missick, Simone Missick’s real-life husband.

DJ Tailwind’s soothing tone reminded everyone we are not alone. It was an important message for everyone because the different characters all showed emotions that many of us are feeling during the pandemic: loneliness, depression, wanting to help, frustration and love.

So, while I’ve had enough Zoom calls these past six weeks to last me the rest of my working career, it was nice to see how families, friends and everyone in between are finding new ways to connect and not feel so lonely during these trying times.

All Rise did a good job of conveying those emotions through their special episode
