Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 and Station 19 Season 4  have new series regulars

Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 and Station 19 Season 4 will be back on ABC before we know it. And with the new seasons comes the news from TVLine that Richard Flood (Dr. Cormac Hayes) and Anthony Hill (Dr. Winston Ndugu) have been promoted to series regulars on Grey’s, while Stefania Spampinato (Dr. Carina Luca) is heading to Station 19 full-time.

It’s always exciting to hear that well-liked characters will be featured more often. Promotions like these open the doors for new storylines to unfold, or for developing relationships to fully blossom. Best of all, we get to learn more about their backstories and what drives them! With that being said, let’s take a look at what could be in store for each character.

Will Cormac Hayes fall in love with Meredith?

Cormac Hayes walked into Grey Sloan Memorial in Season 16 as a “gift” for Meredith from the beloved Cristina Yang. While their interactions have been brief thus far, there’s no denying that something is brewing between the two widowed docs. Hayes appeared cold and distant at the beginning, but that was before we learned about his wife who suffered from cancer.

More from ABC

Speaking as a former MerLuca shipper, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before Meredith and DeLuca go their separate ways. This is not because of his recent mental health issues, but because their compatibility just isn’t what it once appeared to be.

Meredith simply doesn’t respect Andrew like she did Derek. It seems she really does need someone who can match her on that level.

Who better than Dr. Hayes? While we’ve only scratched the surface on who he is, knowing that they both have lost the first loves of their lives means they may find it easier to enter a relationship while already having their own kids and thriving careers. If this is the route that is taken, let’s just hope there’s not another drawn-out love triangle to reach the destination. “Mer-mac” should be end-game.

Winston and Maggie’s story is far from over

We’ve only met Winston once so far, and let’s just say the Grey’s Anatomy fandom is dying to learn more about him. He waltzed back into Maggie’s life at a conference where we learned that they are former colleagues. It didn’t take long for sparks to fly before they capitalized on their undeniable connection in a hotel room.

It’s safe to say that Maggie has struggled with her romantic life during her six years in Seattle. While in the midst of a major character arc, one has to wonder if Winston will play a pivotal role in Maggie finding her groove again. Would it be too good to be true for Mer and Maggie to find love at the same time? It would certainly set up some fun storylines to explore.

Considering Maggie and Winston are both cardio attendings, the stakes could be upped by Winston making his way to Grey Sloan. Winston used to work under Maggie, so they could explore what it’s like to work together. Will Maggie respect Winston at work? Messy or not, Winston and Maggie could be the next great love story.

What will Carina do on Station 19?

Carina DeLuca saw an increase in relevancy following her new-found relationship with Station 19‘s Maya Bishop. She seemed to cross-over more than anyone else, so it only makes sense for a full-time transition to the spinoff series. However, what does this mean for her as a doctor?

As an OG/GYN, there’s only so much Carina could do out in the field if she were to transfer over to the rescue side of things. Maybe she remains at Grey Sloan, but the fear with that is she’ll continue on just as Maya’s love interest who stops by the station or waits for her to get home. Carina fans were thrilled that she found a new storyline last year, and it would be a missed opportunity if she doesn’t continue to evolve.

After three seasons as a recurring character, it’s beyond time for her unique character to receive more attention and development. This move to Station 19 should do the trick, and could provide the show with a strong lesbian relationship if Carina and Maya work things out.
