A breakdown of the live TV ratings for Monday, Oct. 26 programming

The networks had an almost full night of new episodes, and it certainly showed in the live TV ratings. It’s time to break everything down from Monday, Oct. 26.

The only special was CBS with Essential Heroes: A Momento Latino Event, which led us into the season (and possibly series) finale of One Day at a Time. The event didn’t pull in the greatest numbers though, sitting behind The CW’s metrics in the total audience! It pulled in 0.82 million viewers with a 0.2 demo rating.

One Day at a Time was mixed. The first episode of the night saw an 18% dip in the audience to below the million. It was only up 1.7% for the second episode, the finale. It may adjust slightly up as these metrics are the preliminary ones.

This is a concern. Gloria Calderón Kellett shared that she fears a cancellation (again) is coming. This awesome show should not have to fight as hard as it has done!

A good night for many networks

While One Day at a Time struggles, other networks saw some good results in the live TV ratings. Dancing with the Stars was up by 5% in the audience and 18% in the demo. It didn’t quite win the night, but it was a good result.

ABC’s Emergency Call also had a good night, ticking up 37% in the audience and 50% in the demo. It was just behind NBC’s Weakest Link in the timeslot and matched the demo.

Then there was The CW, which saw a 100% uptick in the demo and 34% uptick in the total audience for Whose Line Is It Anyway? Do I need to remind you that this is a staple for the network? Same with Penn & Teller: Fool Us, even if it was down 1.6% in the audience.

Big Brother was up 11% in the demo and steady in the audience. It matched ABC and NBC for the top demo of the night.

NBC mixed, FOX down in the live TV ratings

NBC had a mixed night. The Voice, which saw Kelsie Watts surprise Kelly Clarkson with a Kelly Clarkson song, was down in both the demo and audience compared to last Monday’s episode. However, it matched ABC and CBS in the demo for the top spot and claimed the best audience of the night.

The dips continued with Weakest Link, yet it also had the best audience in the timeslot and matched ABC’s demo for the top.

FOX had the worst night of the lot. While the numbers were still higher than The CW, the percent dips for LA’s Finest and Filthy Rich was large. LA’s Finest dropped another 26% in the audience and 33% in the demo, while Filthy Rich was down 19% in the audience and 25% in the demo.

I have a feeling Filthy Rich will be canceled after one season. Even though it is in the fall by default because of pandemic programming, they’re not good numbers even for the summer. LA’s Finest Season 2 will still likely fill a gap somewhere in the programming since FOX doesn’t have to pay much extra to have it created, but I doubt FOX will save it for Season 3 with these numbers.
