As I got older, I started to make my own holiday traditions. So every year for Christmas, I open up presents in the morning and check out a matinee of the newest movie in theaters. Today, we share the best new movies to watch in theaters and films available on streaming services that you don’t want to miss this weekend.

There is an INSANE amount of movies coming out in theaters this weekend that will capture all ages. We also have the holdover of the people who didn’t catch Spider-Man: No Way Home in theaters opening weekend.

For the families, we have the return of Illumination’s Sing 2, the sequel to the 2016 smash-hit. Also for families, we have the inspirational tale about the life of Kurt Warner in American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story

For the adults, we have a wide range of movies coming out, Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest, Licorice Pizza, the third installment of The King’s Man franchise and the return of Keanu Reeves in The Matrix Resurrections.

New movies to watch in theaters this weekend

  • Sing 2
  • American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story
  • A Journal for Jordan
  • Licorice Pizza
  • Parallel Mothers
  • The Tender Bar
  • The King’s Man

I loved the first Sing. I thought the first movie was well done and a fun approach to the American Idol/The Voice shows in an animated movie. The sequel, which I had the opportunity of attending the US premiere at AFI Fest, is BETTER. It is my favorite animated movie of the year. I loved the new cast additions and the story has a ton of heart in it.

New movies to stream from home this weekend

Although I have yet to see any of the Matrix movies (I know, I know), I am excited for those who have and are ready for another franchise installment. I plan to check it out before I see any of the others.

Don’t Look Up comes out on Netflix today. Watch it, enjoy it, be terrified by it, but ultimately appreciate the fantastic art that Adam McKay presents to us again.
