First One Chicago crossover in five years lands an air date and storyline details
At long last, it’s time for a One Chicago crossover, and we’ve got the first hints as to the plot!
One Chicago has always impressed fans by how well it handles crossovers. It’s quite common for the cops of Chicago PD to show up and help the Chicago Fire crew and both teams ending up at Chicago Med. There are also connections across the shows, such as the Halstead brothers or Fire’s Mouch married to PD’s Trudy.
It’s also been common for crossover storylines, usually just between two shows like Fire and PD. Naturally, NBC has made it bigger with epic crossovers across all three shows. The last time was in 2019 with an eerily prescient storyline of the three teams handling a deadly virus breaking loose in Chicago.
That was the last big crossover as the COVID-19 pandemic prevented such a huge undertaking. There was also the logistics of balancing a storyline over three shows and the 2023 Hollywood strikes causing more delays. But now, TVLine confirms that such a crossover is coming on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, and it looks to be another big event!
What’s coming on the new One Chicago event?
Per TVLine, the storyline will shift up the schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 29 as it begins with Chicago Fire at 8 p.m. ET/PT, followed by Chicago Med and then Chicago PD.
The description of the event reads:
“When a gas explosion rocks a high-rise, Chicago’s first responders come out in force to rescue hundreds of civilians. It’s the calamity beneath the surface, however, that sends our heroes on a race to save 40 people trapped deep underground, including two of their own.”
It sounds like a typical setup as the disaster gets the Fire crew involved, then the PD characters handle the chaos (likely one of the cops is trapped) and then it closes on Med dealing with the patients. There's also the chance that this was no accident and the cops have to figure out who's reponsible.
#OneChicago co-executive producer Anastasia Puglisi previewed just how big this storyline will get.
"Putting together what is essentially a three-hour action movie is an incredibly ambitious task requiring complete coordination across our writers, casts, crews and producers, along with help from the city of Chicago. Fans should expect the first trailers to appear soon as it’s likely to push the action and drama that could change a few characters a lot and remind fans how amazing these crossover events are.
