Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage debuts in fall 2024
At the moment there isn't an exact release date yet for Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage, though CBS has confirmed that the new show will be a part of the network's fall 2024 schedule. That means it's likely we're going to see the series premiere sometime on a Thursday in September or October 2024. That's usually when fall shows begin to air.
The multi-camera comedy will be taking Young Sheldon's time slot. So expect to be tuning in each week on Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS. Of course, episodes will also be available to stream on Paramount+ the next day on Fridays.
At first, news came out that the new show was a possibility and that the creators and CBS were in talks about it. But in March 2024, ahead of the Young Sheldon series finale, it was confirmed that the series was happening. The comedy, which will be taped in front of a live studio audience, is set to begin filming in July 2024, per Entertainment Tonight.
I have my thoughts on this, which you can find in detail here. But overall, I feel like this project is unnecessary and we don't need to see more Georgie and Mandy. To be honest their story was what made Young Sheldon interesting in the last couple of seasons. But I don't feel like we need to continue to see their story. But that's just me.
What is the Young Sheldon spin-off about?
Well as you can tell from the name, Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage is about the titular characters! The eldest Cooper sibling and his new wife have their daughter CeCe to take care of, and it's nice to see that both of them are committed parents given the circumstances that lead to the cute baby. Check out the official synopsis from CBS below:
"Created by the producing team behind The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland, the sequel follows Young Sheldon’s Georgie and Mandy as they raise their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting and marriage."
There haven't been much more details on what we can expect just yet. Though it seems like we're going to see the day-to-day life of the Cooper-McAllister family. In The Big Bang Theory, we're told that Georgie has been married and divorced twice. He and Mandy have good onscreen chemistry in Young Sheldon, and I've honestly started rooting for the couple. So it's a shame knowing that they'll break up. But, it seems like the writers found a workaround since the title of the new show is Georgie and Mandy's FIrst Marriage. This hints that eventually, they'll get back together and perhaps get married again. I sure hope so!
As a reminder, Mandy was the weather girl at a local Texas news station. Though she was fired after she and the station manager broke up. That's when she moved back home to Medford, where the Cooper live, and she meets Georgie as the laundromat he and Connie opened. Georgie is 17 at the time, but hides the fact from a 29-year-old Mandy. When the two sleep together, he tells her the truth. She's rightfully angry and tells him to leave. But eventually, she finds out she's pregnant. Throughout Young Sheldon, we see how the two navigate this challenge with their families. But eventually, CeCe is born and they're both committed.
Cast
Of course Montana Jordan as Georgie and Emily Osment as Mandy will be reprising their roles. It was interesting to get more of the couple, as well as Mandy's parents, in the final episodes of Young Sheldon to lead us into the spin-off. And this was done purposefully as it's been confirmed that Mandy's parents, Will Sasso as Jim and Rachel Bay Jones as Audrey, are set to join the comedy as series regulars.
I'm not really a fan of Audrey, she can be too much and pretty annoying. So, sorry but I'm not very happy that we're getting even more of her character. But we'll see. She has started warming up to Georgie. It's not clear whether the rest of the Cooper gang will be a part of the new show. Though I'm sure it's likely that they will at least pop by. They are all living in the same town. We shared the cast list below:
- Montana Jordan as Georgie Cooper
- Emily Osment as Mandy McAllister
- Will Sasso as Jim McAllister
- Rachel Bay Jones as Audrey McAllister
How did Young Sheldon end?
Young Sheldon came to a bittersweet end as the unavoidable death of George Sr. happened, and we got a glimpse of where the family is headed and how it affected them. It will be interesting to see how this tragic event is going to effect Georgie in the spin-off, and just how much his father will be mentioned. After all, I'd say Georgie was the closest one to his dad from the siblings.
Even though of course it's going to effect him, I think Georgie is going to be busy with his family as well. And we do know in TBBT that he's the one who supported Mary and Missy. Speaking of, the Cooper matriarch falls more into religion and becomes a bit more harder, while Missy struggles with the loss and acts out. Finally, we saw Sheldon head over to Caltech and begin his academic career. Eventually, the school will become Sheldon's place of work with his friends Leonard, Howard, and Raj.
